Be a Reporter!

Up until last year, the Newseum in Washington, D.C. had a YouTube channel (preserved at NewseumArchives) that uploaded every video made by visitors who went the the museum's "Be a Reporter!" exhibit and recorded themselves doing a TV news segment. Or practicing their golf swing. Or saying hi to their moms. Or contemplating the abyss. Sage Boggs of Mic has been tweeting out some of the highlights.

Have we learned nothing from Star Wars Kid?

This reminds me of Speaker's Corner in Toronto which explicitly marketed itself as being there "forever" but is now gone. They had a weekly tv show showing highlights. This is also how the Barenaked Ladies got their start.

In case anyone did this and is worried their video is on there somewhere, I believe the Newseum said that not every video that was made was saved and posted to their account. You were given the option to post it to their YouTube but it wasn't a hidden or automatic thing. So, yeah, these people affirmatively chose to have this uploaded for . . . whatever reason.

i love these things! and spent a bunch of time on smaller diy versions of such...

does mentioning one's own projects in a comment violate the spirit of this place?
anyways, this seems related to a project i spent a bunch of time on. i walked around on the streets of brooklyn in 2009-2010 ish and recorded videos of people. also in the anythings goes, upload everything style. a little intro/greatest hits vid. archive is here https://www.youtube.com/user/brooklynmobile.

lots of shout outs and songs, some messages to recently deceased, some advertisements for illicit services and messages to ex's across the country among many other things...

Cool project danjo. It's cool to link to stuff you've done in the comments when its relevant to the topic at hand, and this surely is.
