High Maintenance Returns... Again

Tonight on HBO we find the premiere continuance of High Maintenance [previously, also previously]. IndieWire has a review, and is pretty impressed.

I really loved the web-series (enough to cough up money to Vimeo, even), and am glad to see it getting a prestigious TV home. The AV Club review was also positive.

One of my favorite shows all time. Discovering the series while new videos were still coming out occasionally on vimeo was such a treasure. It was perfectly suited for webisode format, I hope HBOification doesn't spoil the charm

It would be lovely if Canadians without cable or satellite could see this show legally and support the creators. But as long as Bell fucking Media gets the rights to HBO up here, we don't get HBO NOW. All streaming options are tied to various subscription package that would cost at least $50/month.

It really is a wonderful show, and I'm super bummed that the HBO purchase means they've pulled all the episode from the Internet.

That does seem like it's a bit self-sabotaging. Using the previously online shows to promote the HBO series would make a lot more sense to me. But then, I don't work at HBO or in marketing, so what do I know?

I really enjoyed the web series but I'm worried that HBO might be a year or two too late with picking up this show. NYC marijuana messengers seem like such a primitive and antiquated way of getting your weed these days.

This web series introduced me to Vulfpeck, and gave me a really good name for a field mouse that invaded my home (Jamie), so I'm happy that it's getting recognition, but HBO seems a bit heavy handed in pulling the Vimeo content. On a completely unrelated note, I want to see Ben Sinclair in more stuff - he has really good comedic timing.

The first two seasons on Vimeo were so, so good and I was really disappointed to find out they've been pulled (and I actually, happily, gladly forked over money for the content).

Will paying for access on HBO give me access to the web series content? The schedule fits in well with my polyphasic sleep cycle, but if it's too expensive I can't buy the crystal I need to insert into my sex organs.

According to AV Club, they've moved all the online content onto the HBO platforms for streaming. My DISH subscription and associated HBO Go access both list all the previously online stuff as viewable, so I assume that paying for HBO Now or something would also include these things.

Yup, all the old episodes are available for streaming. Source: me, watching Rachel (aka the best episode) for the first time in months, ahhhhh, so good

I think Helen is probably the most poignant of the episodes.

I haven't watched most of these since the first MF post about this series, so I'm enjoying reviewing them before tonight's HBO premiere.

(Also really enjoying the little commentary segments before each episode.)

My friends and I have a Passover Seder every years, which I've mentioned on the Blue before. One of our cherished annual traditions is watching the High Maintenance Passover episode before the Seder begins.

Bingewatching this whole thing. I already knew the series had heart, but seeing them all in serial like this, I hadn't before realized exactly how much heart it has.

I hope it's found a good home at HBO. This is a worthwhile project that has a lot more depth than I initially realized, and I find myself truly loving Blichfeld and Sinclair for having created this.

Entirely gratuitous full frontal male nudity. I approve.
