Capt. Luis Carlos Montalván, an Army veteran and advocate for veterans with PTSD and traumatic brain injury (TBI), died Friday night. After serving in Iraq and suffering a TBI, Montalvan was paired with a service dog, Tuesday. He and Tuesday crossed the country over the past few years, advocating for the use of service dogs for injured vets. Capt. Montalván was 43.

Thank you Capt. Luis Carlos Montalván for accepting a companion for the healing that you needed at the time. I am so sad to hear this news.

I was just talking about this in a thread but didn't know if he was notable enough for a post. Thanks for making it. This hit a lot of people in the veteran advocacy community pretty hard.

This is heartbreaking. I've made a donation to ecad in his memory. Many vets and families mourn his passing, but hopefully this helps someone else find their Tuesday. And may Capt. Montalvan's passing remind those in power that our service personnel are owed so much more than they receive.

The way this country has treated veterans in their "wars" is nothing short of despicable. The suicide rate among vets is so high, that you can't possibly find enough dogs to stop it.
End the "war".
Full Stop.

My family was fortunate enough to meet Captain Montalvan on more than one occasion. We met having heard him speak and read from his books, including Tuesday Tucks Me In. We picnicked with him and our neighbors and spent time around the fire talking for hours. He was immensely generous with his time and advocacy. His gentleness and kindness around groups of children who were unsure what to make of his injuries was amazing to watch; he always had a smile for any child who talked with him and used his relationship with Tuesday to make a scary topic more approachable to almost every kid who talked with him.
