To quote Mrs. CoB this morning: "I'm glad they haven't given up. I hope they never do."

All the jokes I'm making about this are spoilers, so let me just say that this is awesome. As many of us here probably were, I was a huge fan of The Muppet Show as a youngster, but I was always a little disappointed when there wasn't a Pigs in Space sketch in an episode. (That and the one where they are dancing and exchanging bad jokes.)

That one merged the setting and characters of "Pigs in Space" with the format of "Veterinary Hospital" and threw in a homage to Alien as well as some timely political subversion.

I like it.

Most excellent. However, as one of the comments mentioned, please put more time into releasing Muppet Show seasons 4 and 5 on DVD!

This is a nice palate-cleanser after the disastrous The Office style single camera sitcom that Disney tried to make happen in 2015 and then again in 2016.

Now let us never speak of it again.

To be fair, The Muppets underwent a break (and a backstage shakeup) after episode 10, and when it returned it felt like it had regained it's heart a bit and was much better. But by then, it had spent 10 episodes burning away viewers' goodwill and it never recovered.

If they'd given it a second season of another 16 episodes, it might have been able to find an audience again. But the tone was SO SO WRONG during the first episodes that even I, a dyed-in-the-wool Muppets fan, found it difficult to watch.

Um. Exactly which part of "let us never speak of it again" did you not understand?

[cut to one-shot "confessional" of Atom Eyes directly addressing camera]

I swear, sometimes it's like I'm just talking to myself here!

. . .

Uh. Hello?

. . .

There's nobody operating this camera.

I can still call up the intro music for that segment in my head at will.

Fact (that I learned today because it was also in my head and I was wondering): That song is a Joe Raposo original and not some other song you might just not have known.

Much more fun fact: In a fourth season episode guest starring Dudley Moore, it was given a disco treatment.

And, erm, there's no camera?

Collections of Muppet Show PIGS IN SPACE segments: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

I think the choice of Muppet characters to portray the "Alien" was brilliant on multiple levels, and there are multiple reports of more PiS webisodes in the pipeline, with the next one involving a take-off on "Gravity" (With Disney now owning the Muppets, I would be severely disappointed if that one doesn't include at least one "Gravity Falls" reference).

Next we'll be seeing Rouge One: A Muppet Story.

I'm holding out for Frog Thor. (No, not that one.)

ouch the automatic subtitles are nigh-total gibberish.

So how does this alien relate to the one at the end of Space Balls? The resemblance seems more than passing

AND NOW, YET ANOTHER EPISODE OF PIGS IN SPACE!!!
“The Gravity of the Situation”

disappointed in the apparent absence of a "Gravity Falls" reference... now there's nothing to look forward to but maybe a "Rogue One" take-off???

That one gets rather meta. I don't think I've ever seen a Muppet operate a puppet before.
