P-Model was amazing They were a Japanese band, formed by Susumu Hirasawa in 1979. Over the next two decades their sound spanned everything from new wave, alternative, industrial, techno, and whatever style this is .

P-Model (and two other Japanese Technopop bands) previously.

Also, P-Model, along with DEVO, are a huge influence on the modern Japanese rock band Polysics, as can be seen here, here, and here.

I'm hearing a lot of XTC in that second Polysics track. Looks like I have two new bands to investigate. Thanks!

Hirasawa is great! His solo career and scoring for Satoshi Kon films are pretty fantastic and weird and worth checking out, too. His vocal stylings are gorgeous, he does weird things with instrumentation and seems like a genuinely awesome person.

Blue Limbo is maybe my favorite album, and a good/representative place to start.

I was introduced to Hirasawa, and therefore P-Model, through Satoshi Kon's film Paprika. The song Parade became an obsession, and led me to the rest of his catalogue.

Cheers SansPoint, I should have looked harder for previous posts. On the bright side, you were 7 years ahead of me, so hopefully repost didn't annoy too many people.

Italian Radio: I think seven years is enough time, and besides, you were more focused on P-Model.

XTC is definitely an influence on Polysics; One of their early singles is called "XCT".

Oh my goodness I almost missed a P-Model post!

Like Kattullus, I was introduced via anime. In my case, it was Berserk, and Forces (this is the original version, but set to newer movie clips). I remember hunting down all his stuff via IRC DCC bots, and have kept up over the years. Guy is amazingly prolific and varied, and when I don't know what to listen to, I'll often just open up a random P-Model album.
