Happy Holidays from the US Mission in Japan

Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and the staff of the United States Mission in Japan (from Tokyo, Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Naha) perform the Koi Dance.

The Koi Dance is from Hoshino Gen's "Koi", and the US Mission is specifically performing the version of the dance that the cast of the TBS drama Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu ("Running Away is Shameful but can Also Be Useful") performed. Nigeru wa is of course based on a manga.

On second thought let's not go to the US Mission in Japan. It is a silly place.

This TV series was seriously the best thing that happened in Japan this year. I loved it. It was a wonderfully feminist and socially-minded story hidden under a romantic facade. The manga is great too, but the screenplay did such a great job adapting it and was simply fabulous. It ended last night and I'm seriously bummed.

That is where she was - I was thinking about her the other day.

mumimor: it's heartwarming and more than a little scary to see that story about what a well selected ambassador can do.

She is doing a much better job as an American ambassador than her grandfather.

Yay! I love this drama and love this dance. I was listening to the Oricon and I think this song was just about on when I was browsing this post.

What network (or streaming service) in America would have the cojones to run a series titled Running Away is Shameful but can Also Be Useful?

OK, now that I've stayed on topic for a moment, can we take a complete break and talk about that eagle. Does the US Embassay have its own mascot?!?! Or is that eagle related to Naha? Either way, I would like to purchase that eagle as a phone strap, please. (I already have a Kumamon glass.)

My brother was supposed to be part of the video but had a conflict and couldn't make it. Kind of a bummer, I had watched it twice to make sure I didn't miss him, and have been giving him a hard time over Instant Message.
