Probably my favorite bit, from the girl in the maroon sweater:

"Flavored condoms? Why would you want flav -"

pause, eyes widen

"....Ohhhhhhhhhhhh."

If I ever had to sit WITH MY SISTER getting an explicit, detailed lesson on birth control, I would know that I had died and gone to hell.

I thought that was sweet, overall.

Our 12-1/2 year old, daughter (currently in 7th grade) just finished the two week "Teen Talk" program at her middle school. She's very precocious about almost everything but was loudly ambivalent about having to take sex ed at school - not ready for that, doesn't currently have any interest in sex of any sort with anyone, etc. It made for a somewhat uncomfortable two weeks -- she excelled at the biology of the unit, but cringed at the practical/applied lessons, such as putting a condom on a phallus (for which they apparently used props that were similar to dildos, but which weren't actually dildos - ???) Looking over her course material, we were honestly surprised at how good it was. The information was accurate, plentiful, plainspoken, and LGBQT* positive/inclusive. It was also very practical: among other things, students had to create their own reference sheets listing the multiple family planning and health clinics within our county, including their phone numbers, addresses, and the bus routes one might need to take to get to them, as well as whether a given clinic would provide birth control supplies to teens who wished to remain anonymous. It was quite well done.

I can't wait to show her this video and get her reaction. I imagine I'll get a withering glare and a solid "harrumph!", but maybe she'll be amused for a change...

Runner-up in favorite moment, also from the girl in the maroon sweater -

Her mother has asked her to pick out a condom so she can show her how to put it on (with a banana as model), and the girl sees one with the brand name "Mega big boy". She then spends several seconds waving it at the camera and crowing "Mega Big Boy! Mega Big Boy!" as Mom goes full facepalm.

Basically I love anything the girl in the maroon sweater does, the end

She has utterly fantastic timing.

Beret Dad trying to explain abstinence as Li'l Han blows up the condom is also wonderful. Based on his behavior I don't think he needs to worry about choosing abstinence, exactly.

So my job is to teach sex Ed and this video (including seemingly well meaning parents who actually want to discuss some sex Ed with their kids) is why it drives me bananas to hear that people should be left to deliver this I formation at home. OMG the misinformation being delivered! Female condoms (FC2) do not have spermicide in them, diaphragms are one of the least common methods of birth control (and aren't even the most effective to boot), completely skipping the importance of lubrication, an IUD goes in the uterus as the name states not the arm, it is not done surgically (yes in a doctor's office but no incisions are made), abstinence is the only 100% effective method as long as both people are practicing it all the time, LARCs are as effective as sterilization, and you can still get STI's from oral sex.

That being said, the kids were adorable but this is why it should be an ongoing conversation and not a "one and done" scenario. The discomfort goes away with practice.

I think the parents needed a brush up.

That said, ow my stomach hurts from all the cringey laughter.

I think the parents needed a brush up.

Might be why they became parents in the first place.

The boy who asked what bananas had to do with sex sure seemed like he knew what he was doing with one a few minutes later.

I really enjoyed this, thank you! The kids were cute and I liked how the parents were being honest. I noticed a few (but not all!) of the things raccoon409 mentioned and I wish there'd been a little more focus on disease prevention as well as birth control but it was funny and refreshing to see parents talking to their children openly about this stuff.

That was my favourite bit "so you just roll it- wait how are you so good at this, do you have experience??"

I assumed this was loosely scripted.

I'm curious why this video got made. I'm used to videos like this being sponsored by some health department or advocacy group. But I think this was just made for ad views? The source is listed as Cut, which "makes spreadable digital content that is for fun, for serious, and for real" and "Cut makes viral content by blurring the boundaries between cool and friendly, smart and silly, and provocative and eye-opening." Ie: they are in the business of manufacturing content like this but entirely for the purpose of selling advertising.

Nothing exactly wrong with creating content to sell ads, but it sure is a different context than it being a sex ed video.

Cut's channel also had an earlier, similar "parents tell their kids about the birds and bees" video that's cute too. (A favorite exchange from that one - parents are sitting there with an adorable little girl, and the dad stammeringly says that "when a mommy and a daddy love each other, and they want to have a baby, they have to...uh...they have to..." The girl then cuts in with "They have to work together?" After a second's pause, the parents say, "Uh, well....yes....")

Cut is just a random we-make-cool-stuff-for-Youtube channel kind of like Buzzfeed. They also started the "100 years of Beauty" series, and they had a "kids try x foods from around the world" series; each of those got so popular they were spun off into sister channels.
