I can attest to Leon being a great guy as well as a heck of a filmmaker (and musician, too!)...

She seems like great fun! I'm going to a burlesque show in a week(ish) where a lot of my friends are performing, and there are a lot of performers of size. I've thought about taking burlesque classes, just cause it looks like it would be fun, but I've let age and size stop me from ever doing it. Perhaps this is the year that this grey haired, round, hobbit can let her freak flag fly. ;)

Of course if you can tap the margin on boutique appeal, do as you please. Otherwise... do as you must?

Tnx for posting this doc. I was inadvertently exposed to this world at the after party for the Coney Island Film Festival two summers ago. There were many fat -- Fancy Feast's word -- burlesque performers as part of a late night "side show." At first it was totally "Springtime For Hitler": as in, WTF?? But it became obvious that these women were performance artists. And they were totally comfortable taking off their clothes as part of their art on stage.

Main take away: it was amazingly great to see there are still vibrant counter cultures in NYC, even if this one is at the very end of the D train. Especially given so much gentrification has replaced artists lofts with $3,000 per square foot condos. That said, around 2:30 AM I left when the people putting big needles through their skin took the stage.
