Dr. Claire Simeone, marine mammal veterinarian, received several mysterious calls from the seal hospital. But who was on the other line?

The Washington Post also interviewed Dr. Simeone.

More about Ke Kai Ola.

This is adorable! I love the photo of the "telemarketer" culprit.

*laughs* I had something similar happen about six months ago when I woke up to vague memories of my roommate peering into my room for something, picked up my cell phone, and abruptly noticed about ten missed calls and, uh, something like twenty-five outgoing calls made between the hours of 11pm (after I had fallen asleep) and 2am to a surprising array of numbers, including a) my boss, b) my spouse's then-boss (who is also our good friend) and c) the friend who had been previously looking after two of our cats while we were all temporarily living out of hotels, among a few others. Friend B has a tendency to panic and had therefore alerted several of our friends that we were In Danger, particularly after friend C mentioned with some confusion that I wouldn't stop calling her. (She eventually calmed down after successfully getting hold of our roommate and verifying that we were both sleeping peacefully in our room.)

As it turned out, my kitten Dent--who had been staying with friend c) for the past six weeks--had placed his fat kitten ass and his tiny naked toes all over my phone and spent the night kicking absently at it, preventing the screen from turning off. Somehow he turned on the phone app and started dialing everyone on my recently-called list, which is very short because I do not call people very often. Friend c) accepted with some affection the explanation that he was calling because he wanted to come back and visit, thankfully.

My boss has never commented on the incident, to my deep relief.

I think this all happened like a month before the same kitten found a panic button and called the cops on us twice and the firefighters once before we found out how he was doing it.

That gif of seals bouncing along on the floor was riveting in a way I haven't experienced before.

Sciatrix: your kitten definitely has the eyes of a kitten who would do that!
