What did Gray know and when did he know it?
"Just after the deal was signed, an Oracle lobbyist handed a $25,000 campaign donation to an aide to Davis who was involved in negotiating the pact."

Um... so?

I only scanned the article. But I wouldn't be surprised if this Mehta chap is being set up as the fall guy by higher ups. Oracle people play hardball, as do politicians.

The whole mess is just a classical featherbedding scam. This is the deal where Oracle basically sold CA a processor license for every box in the state IT system, right?

Someone's going down. But the higher ups will ROLLBACK.

Because

"The $95 million, no-bid deal was supposed to save the state more than $100 million through volume purchasing and maintenance of database software.

But the state auditor says it could end up costing $41 million more than if the state had kept its previous software supply arrangements, a position Oracle heatedly disputes. Critics say state officials never verified Oracle's claims of big savings if the state signed the deal."

So, Davis endorsed the expulsion of CA's top IT guy, yet cashed in on the deal himself?

Gray Davis is simply the most corrupt person to ever live in the California Governor's Mansion. I'm a liberal Democrat, thus towering mightily among the ghosts of Nixon and Reagan is quite a big jump. Yet the farking Democratic leadership of this country is pushing this moronic bozo for prez in 2008. Yes, the man can fundraise; he sold California to Enron and El Paso for a dime. He jokes about giving Al Gore charisma lessons. Please, please can voters in the other 49 states please DO SOMETHING to keep this bozo from being a candidate for president?

Um, maybe the bozos in California should refrain from electing creeps like Davis in the first place?

And thank god that Jerry Brown, Pete Wilson, and George Deukmejian never went on to hold national office. Although I have to admit that I've got a soft spot (in my skull) for Former Governor Moonbeam (Brown); anyone who used to date Linda Ronstadt must have something going for him.

Sheesh, I'm amazed that there are liberal democrats that hate this guy. Thanks for helping me dispel some of my ideas of liberals. I've seen so many stick up for him and I just sit and wonder why they do it with the problems CA has because of him.

Now, I'm just wondering how long this thread is going to go with Dubya being blamed for something??? :) (Just kidding guys/gals.)

Oops, meant "without Dubya being blamed".

Unfortunately for the upcoming election, the only reasonable person who wanted to run for Governor, Riordan, lost the Republican primary. So now the choice is between the spineless whore Davis and the retarded boyscout Simon. Some choice.

Gray Davis have absolutely no moral compass. I voted for him last time with great hopes. Now he just sits in the California Governor's Mansion figuring out how he can make more money. He will sell anything...and position, any policy, any law for money. I hate the man. And like Homunculus said, since Riorden lost, it's between the a scary right-wing crusading bigot and Gray, who would sell his soul for a campaign contribution.

And it looks like Simon might win!

I weep for America if Gray becomes president.
