“We now have friends for life,” Heiss said. “And, for a day, that border fence with its concertina wire melted away.” A girl in Mexico attached her Christmas list to a balloon. A man across the border found it. By Amy B Wang Washington Post

Sweet story, except for the paywall that blocked me from reading it.

Does incognito mode not work? That always works for me.

Oh God it's dusty in here! This is why I love Baja Arizona and it's citizens so much! I grew up there. We frequently crossed the border into Nogalas to shop and eat. The friendship between Mexico and the US was apparent all over the region. The border wall is, to me, the most hideous, and heartbreaking aspect of the mindbendingly hideous and heartbreaking Trump garbage fire we suffer through every day.

That was a lovely story, was not ready for the gut punch there at the end. I’m very glad they’ve found healing by giving and creating more love. People are people, everywhere, and we all need each other.

Incognito no longer works for me, WaPo makes sure it tells me how many articles I have left and am out of again.

For people paywalled out of the story, coverage from the Arizona Daily Star: Arizona man plays Santa after finding Nogales girl's Christmas wish list tied to balloon.
Picture of the girl and her family in the Nogales International: Balloon carried over the border leads to a Christmas connection.

The border wall can be defeated by a balloon?!

(And also by nice people.)

I can just imagine The Donald's midnight tweet: "we're going to need a higher wall!"

Wayback machine link here - no paywall.

"And, for a day, that border fence with its concertina wire melted away." Jesus. Amazing story, but what a finish.

Delete your WaPo cookies if you're having trouble.

Or, another Wayback link. (ELF beat me to it.)

Firefox's Private Browsing mode works great with WaPo. Even better it gives you the warm fuzzy feeling of using a web browser that's not created by a gigantic tech quasi-monopoly that is eating the world with questionable business practices.

I'd go with "fricken lasers" for the incompetent villain resonance.
