A new short science fiction story from Nosipho Dumisa in Slate Each month, Future Tense Fiction—a series of short stories from Future Tense and ASU’s Center for Science and the Imagination about how technology and science will change our lives—publishes a story on a theme. The theme for January–March 2019: Identity.

The response to the story: Why Are We So Afraid of Each New Advance in Reproductive Technology? Nosipho Dumisa’s “Mpendulo: The Answer” shows how fraught scientific discussions around genetics can become.
