On Friday Khruangbin released their latest record Hasta El Cielo, a dub/remix version of their 2018 release Con Todo El Mundo. The trio from Houston, Texas, draws from a wide range of influences including (but not limited to) Thai funk, gospel, surf rock, psychedelic rock, classic soul, and other music from around the world. The result is "dreamy, instrumental music."

Khruangbin is Mark Speer (guitar), Laura Lee (bass), and Donald "DJ" Johnson (drums). Anyone looking for a good intro to the band should check out "A Calf Born in Winter" single from 2014, "Two Fish And An Elephant" from 2015's The Universe Smiles Upon You, "Evan Finds the Third Room" from Con Todo El Mundo, or head over to their NPR Tiny Desk Concert from last year. If you're a fan of HBO's Barry, you may have caught "Cómo Me Quieres" in season 2's "The Power Of No, or heard them in Netflix's Easy or several other shows.

Pitchfork Live has released a full live set from 2018, and you can catch another full live set at the Best Kept Secret festival also from 2018.

I’m not sure Hasta El Cielo will grow on me, but Con Todo El Mundo has got to be my most played album in the past 12 months. It’s sublime.

Con Todo El Mundo was one of my albums of the year last year. Killer band.

Good stuff! I like them best when they're more funky and upbeat (e.g. Evan Finds the Third Room). The slow and brooding stuff is good too, but I'm in the mood for it less often.

It wasn't until I watched that Pitchfork show that I appreciated how good they are. I'd heard some of their tracks on the radio before that, but somehow it was seeing them play that opened my ears, & made me a fan.

That picthfork set shows up in my suggested videos constantly. I'm A-ok with that. Watched it a couple dozen times by now too.

Apparently they canceled a show this weekend due to a medical emergency, but now reporting everything's cool. Fingers crossed for a handful of albums of new material to chill to for the remainder of my days.
