The adventures of Monique (chicken) and Guirec (person)

Guirec Soudee sails around the world (official site) on his own (Great Big Story video clip), except for his unusual traveling companion, Monique. She's a chicken, who is a travel partner as Goirec has sailed from the North Pole to the South Pole. You can also follow their adventures on Facebook and Instagram, and clips of news coverage, showing her in the surf and the snow.

As recounted by Atlas Obsura, the Romans took chickens on board military ships to predict the outcomes of battles—if the hens ate, victory could be expected (though Romans also consulted terrestrial sacred chickens in other instances, per Anecdotes from Antiquity).

Chickens have also been kept on ships as one of many options for seaborne fresh meat, as told by British Food in America.

Per Wikipedia, chickens have become more popular as pets in the 2000s, so while Guirec is following a long history of ocean-bound chickens, he's making it modern by treating Monique as more than meat, or a prognosticator.
