Well. I have been listening to I Disagree for quite a bit now and had absolutely no idea it was the same Poppy. Huh. Thanks!

Yeah, I was surprised when Bite Your Teeth came up on a Spotify AI-made playlist* I was listening to and I looked up who sang it. I guess we really should just let artists art and pick up what we like?

*(Winner from that session, though, was Alice Longyu Gao's 'U Think U Can Fuck With Me' - I was sold after 54 seconds in.)

Grimes meets Babymetal? Sure.

It's weird how overtly aggro metal Poppy is somehow a relief after the high-wire queasy creepshow of her earlier incarnation. Though the genre shifts in Concrete (oh god that outro) suggest that maybe she's not completely done with messing with people's heads either.

This is a very good description

I was unaware that music was a "there can be only one" kind of situation?

I find it unnerving. Not everything works. I like it.

Nina Hagen already exists.

Ok, someone grab the baton. Once we’ve made it back to Hildegard von Bingen we can just call this icky new-music thing off for good.

If this is part of a William Gibson story, is it a trilogy or just a short work?

As Poppy has been slowly evolving, she has also become more and more involved with NXT wrestling, showing up in the beginnings of her metal morphing, up to performing live at several of their takings and Takeover live/PPV events.

Opening the Oct 30th episode of NXT with I Disagree

Playing https://youtu.be/h27izmXXu-Q for Io Shirai’s entrance on an episode of NXT (the ending is a perfect wrestling entrance moment)

Opening Takeover Portland with two songs.

she is?

Anyway, I wonder if this resurgence of nu metal in the pop music of young women artists like Grimes, Poppy or Rina Sawayama might bleed into the mainstream? With a 20 year cycle of nostalgia in music, nu metal would be due for a comeback but... eesh... I would be fine if we could just skip this one. :)

I appreciate that Poppy's thing was refusing to act as expected, but somehow I still discounted a shift into nu-metal.

A female-led nu-metal revival would be at least different - Evanescence has somehow endured in a half-ironic way - but I'm not entirely willing to discount a genre that grew out of Jump Around.

"don't go outside" is surprisingly chill (though the visual effects used to animate it are kinda strobe lightish). Still, pretty appropriate for the zeitgeist.

Sit/Stay came on just as I found this post! Thanks for making it. I'm listening to a lot of this album right now. Especially Concrete, Don't Go Outside and Anything Like Me as well but I love the whole thing, even if I wouldn't normally listen to any metal really.

Also I don't think there was ever any post or anything for her last album? Am I A Girl? is unquestionably what hooked me on Poppy.

Poppy is a Trump fan.

she is?

Someone used a voter lookup app to find out she's registered as a Republican. And a person who worked with her (of dubious credibility) claimed she was a Trump supporter. So nothing conclusive but a few things pointing that way.

I'm pleased to hear she's cut ties with Titanic Sinclair. I never understood the full situation between them and the Mars Argo lawsuit and everything, but I had just assumed that if they stopped working together, it would be the end of 'Poppy' as a project.

The bubbly electropop on Poppy.Computer was more my speed, but I am enjoying the new album in its way too.
