Yes, movie theaters are still closed. But one enterprising filmmaker has the No. 1 film in the US. And his story is better than any script.

However, Jurassic Park soon retook the top spot (for the fourth time in 27 years), thanks mostly to drive-in theaters.

I fully support them having done this. It's totally a stunt, but it's a real film (haven't watched it, probably will start it), and they now have #1 Movie Makers on their resume. Brilliant!

This kind of creative movie hustle hearkens back to the days when you could promote a horror film by hiring a hearse to park in front of the theater in case a viewer "died of fright." This is the type of search-engine optimization disruption that I can stand behind.

It's a moderately encouraging sign that there are almost enough 21st century digital-culture horror films to have a festival: Followed (now playing at my drive-in), Searching, Unfriended, Unfriended 2: Dark Web, et cetera.
