Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas is a contemporary visual artist that bridges Haida, Asian, and Canadian cultures and identities with his art. In this video interview [YT] he discusses his mural, Orcinus Orca SKAAnaa. The mural is part of a new exhibition from the Royal BC Museum called Orcas: Our Shared Future.

In the interview, Michael also discusses his style of Haida Manga and his goal of making accessible art. You can see more of RED in his portfolio gallery. He has also done a fair amount of public speaking, so if you are interested in more check out his TedxVancouver talk, Art opens windows to the space between ourselves.

PS: I searched and searched, but could not find anywhere you can see the full mural outside of the video link or in the book Spirits of the Coast. If you are YT adverse you can see part of the mural in this Vancouver Sun book review and on Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas' Instagram.

Thanks! I'd love to see this. Fingers crossed by the end of summer travel to the Island will be a sensible thing to do.

This is great. The video is an amazing guide to the work itself as well as a wonderful introduction to the artist's way of approaching their studio practice.
