Like a reboot of "Falcon Crest." But with real falcons.

It's been a rollercoaster few months for the peregrine falcons of the UC Berkeley Campanile: Annie, Grinnell (2014?-2022) and "New Guy" Alden. (Most links are to social media.)

November 2021: Grinnell was injured and went to the hospital. Another male falcon visited. Grinnell completed rehabbing his injury and returned to the Campanile.

January 2022: Annie and Grinnell resumed courtship heading into the breeding season.

February 2022: Annie disappeared for a week - and returned.

March 2022: Annie laid her first egg. Grinnell died after being struck by a vehicle.

April 2022: "New Guy" started hanging around, delivering food, sharing incubation duties, and loafing.

If all goes well, hatching may occur around May 5.

RIP Grinnell, but so glad that Alden is stepping up. I have been following this on Berkeleyside, which has had extensive reporting. It's truly been a wild year.

Fingers crossed for a healthy brood!

Unsurprisingly, I have been following this closely. Here are a couple of instagram accounts with good photos and coverage.
