Another cellist doing neat things with electronics is Cris Derksen, a Canadian Cree performer and composer.

Sure she's a great cellist, but everyone knows Thunderstruck is the make or break cello tune!

OK, seriously, I love the Cello, and it's creative usage these days. Thanks ShooBoo for this post, and Chocomog, here's a link to the Zoe Keating site. I suppose I cold add a link to Two Cellos covering Thunderstruck as well.

My kids bought me a looper as a present. It is SO much harder to use than I thought it would be, which makes effective use all the more impressive for me.

Zoe Keating has been doing this for a very long time, with creative results.

I mean, one day in junior high orchestra we saw a demonstration of this by a student from the highschool next door, as well as other pedal effects. At the risk of dating myself, this was before wikipedia indicates Zoe first published an album.

The ingredients were in the air for a long time.

Thanks for the share! I've really enjoyed the music of Gretchen Yanover and Zoe Keating. Also a new name to add to the list: Matthew Schoening. Wandering off to check out Cris Derksen now.

This approach has so many possibilities. My favorite person doing it here in New Orleans is Helen Gillet.
