Kyiv: Special Edition, Ukraine - Somewhere Street

I was lauding NHK's Somewhere Street in adept256's Let's go for a walk in the city when I came upon this in my search. It shows the sights, views and landmarks along conversations and interactions with people met in the streets of Kyiv in 2019.

I used to watch a lot of NHK World and Somewhere Street was always a favorite. So many places and so many people have I known from wandering filming crews. This is lovely and sad at the same time. Hats off to NHK World for doing it and putting it up.

Indeed. You can't help but wonder what has happened with those people since.

I was especially struck by the story of that priest about how his monastery was used as a hospital during the Maidan in 2014 -- where they had to do triage and concentrate on those who they could save. And when they carried in thr corpses of those they couldn't save, how he was struck by the constant ringing of all the phones of the dead. Which all went unanswered.

This hit me harder than I expected, even without the coda. All these peoples talking to me!

My mom never liked fireworks, because the loud bangs reminded her of sheltering from bomb raids.
