BODY

(One of my dumb little conversational questions is, what song do you think you've had stuck in your head the most over the course of your life? I ask that question because of this song, and the fat wedge of my life's pie graph this song has floated around my head for.)

Uh, I know he's 80 but is Paul ... ok?

Every single damn time someone says "It's been..." my brain IMMEDIATELY wants to yell "one week since you looked at me..."

But, yes, this song is worse. It has never brought me joy, so maybe that's why I don't allow my brain to hang on to it. And, yes, I'm embarrassed I just admitted One Week has, at times, brought me joy.

Had to look it up, since I had no idea what this was from. Looks like they were really playing with "Maybe I'm Amazed?"

This is from that “McCartney” series on streaming, right? Must’ve come later on, after I got bored with him and bailed.

no, we've never heard anything like this

that loping beat is nothing new - and i dare say paul knows that last record - it's the b-side of "israelites" and he mentions desmond in obladi oblada

he's being polite

I had assumed this was fake. It's fake, right? People seem to be assuming it's real...

what song do you think you've had stuck in your head the most over the course of your life?

For years our local supermarket has been playing Rachel Platten's Stand by You every single time we go in there. Literally every... single... time. I can go in there at 3 PM on a Saturday, 7 PM on a Wednesday, 10 PM on Monday, and I'm 100% guaranteed to hear Stand by You. I'm guessing they play that song a dozen times a day and it must be absolute torture for the employees. The song doesn't seem so evil on the surface, it's just one of a million fakey, BS "empowerment" anthems that clog up the airways, but if you hear it over and over and over again like I have it will burrow into your brain forever (if you haven't heard it, do not google it). Remember that Star Trek: TNG where Deanna Troi gets some evil alien song stuck in her head until she's losing her mind and she's crying messy tears, begging for it to stop? That is me with this piece of shit, every few weeks. There have been times when I fell asleep with it stuck in my head and then woke up with it still going, and I realized it had been looping in my mind all night while I was asleep.

It has this fake ending that's just vile, it gives you hope it's over, and then... NOPE, more of Platten warbling away. The worst part is how she keeps saying she'll walk through hell with you. Yeah, I don't doubt it, Rachel. This song will definitely be playing on a loop in hell.

I'm gonna have this ear-turd stuck in my head again now, goddamn it. Fuck off and die, Rachel Platten's Stand by You!

This is hilarious. I kind of feel like they should do a follow up to the *serious* *artsy* McCartney 3,2,1 that's just him being forced to listen to songs like All Star. It could be like Drunk History, but for music.

But, yes, this song is worse. It has never brought me joy,

In '99 I was driving to a job interview when this song came on the radio. I am not very good at job interviews, but I let this song convince me that I was an all star for the next half hour, and I got the job. So I can appreciate this song for that.

I'm generally keen on all things Beatles and enjoyed every episode of the Classic Albums documentary series which explores behind the scenes music production, so I found it particularly impressive how stultifyingly lackluster they managed to make that McCartney 3,2,1 miniseries.

It has never brought me joy

SO, SO much joy though:

I mean, the OP itself is kind of wonderful, and as a result I just watched like 20 John Sudano videos

and this is one I never saw before: "probably 14 years too late"

Holy cow - the chord progression at the 2 minute mark chorus is simultaneously the most Songsmith thing ever and, as Brian Wilson would say, "the most honest form of human expression there is"
