A really good musical

Extremely talented singer/songwriter and performer Todrick Hall has written, directed, choreographed, produced and performed in a 1 hour 31 minute long musical film, Forbidden, full of great songs, great choreography, great costumes and great sets which is FREE to watch on his youtube site. The supporting cast includes Cynthia Erivo, Tiffany Haddish, Jade Novah, and RuPaul.

Todrick Hall [who is a gay Black man] has set his film in a world where Black and LGBT people are the mainstream, and straight people and white people are marginalised/othered. He uses this as a lens to critique homophobia and racism.

The musical genres within the musical vary widely, but some highlights include:

Wanted

Nobody
(Jade Novah & Cynthia Erivo)

All American

It appears this is one production (it’s a few years old) for which various crew and dancers have alleged that they weren’t paid. I’m still interested in watching with an ad blocker, though.

So, just as a quick note, if you post youtu.be shortened links, it breaks the MetaFilter inline player, requiring a click through to see the thing rather than being able to watch/preview without leaving the page.
