So long, Mr. Dave

David Lindley has passed away. A master of the lap steel and a number of other instruments, he was known for his work with Ry Cooder, Jackson Browne and many other artists. Listen to him playing with his band El Rayo-X and with Wally Ingram. So long, Mr. Dave, and thanks for all the good music.

RIP. I had the pleasure of meeting him briefly at the Santa Barbara Bowl in 1994 when I helped with a benefit concert that Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt and John Prine (also RIP) played. Didn't get to talk, but he seemed nice. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.

Really loved his work with Jackson Browne. We had the pleasure of seeing him in concert with Browne and his playing was stellar. Respect to a player who brings an oud to a rock concert.

The solo in Late For The Sky is one of my very favorite pieces of guitar work. He was pretty incredible and this is sad.

My brother was way into him in the 80s and beyond, and he's how I found out about Danelectro and National guitars. I'll pour one for him tonight.

Oh no. I don’t think I’ve ever worked on an issue of the magazine I edit for without at least one mention of what he means to someone. Usually there’s more than one. Coming on the heels of Crosby’s death, this next issue will be unbearably sad. There’s a reason he’s worshipped.

Sat about 10 feet from an outdoor stage at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and oh a decent person and such a great player. I love his electric version of Mercury Blues but the version he did for us was more like this one.
