There's something exciting about trying to stage impossible things

So, I loved the book very deeply, and the movie was thrilling, but now... Life Of Pi is going to Broadway. (NBCNews, 6m, Al Roker, puppetry) I could see this being a thrilling theater experience.

I didn't even know about this play until tonight. I did some more research, and watched some more videos. I love puppetry and adventurous theater, so I'm sharing the ones that struck me the most: Life Of Pi showcase performance, Olivier Awards 2022 [5m], Special Press Presentation - Schoenfeld Theater, NYC [4m], A Look Inside The Acclaimed New Theater Production Of Life Of Pi [6m, PBS, from Cambridge MA tryouts].

Can I just win the lottery so I can spend a month going to Broadway shows, please? So much exciting going on there this season!

I saw this a couple months ago in Cambridge, MA.

The puppetry was amazing. The human puppeteers were clearly visible but they somehow became part of the puppets. It's hard to explain but it was really neat.

The show itself... wasn't great. I might have enjoyed it more if I didn't know the story already, having read the book and seen the film. I am hoping they tweaked it a bit afterwards before going to Broadway.

I would say if you like puppets and you liked the story it'd be worth seeing.

Some friends just saw it a few weeks ago on Broadway and loooooved it. They said the puppetry was astounding.

“His Dark Materials” - based on Philip Pullman’s trilogy- also appeared as a puppet assisted play - in that case, the puppets were done by Handspring theatre - who went on to do Warhorse. So trust puppets to help with staging the impossible. (six hours long, mind)

Handspring are ace. My mate played Joey in Warhorse, literally - she was the head, did all of Joey’s braying and effects, they really go all out. Looks great in London’s West End but ticket prices at Wyndham’s are always insane. Not Broadway insane, but close.

I was confused for a moment thinking this was about Petr Beckmann's book "A History of Pi".

It is not.
