This is evil haha. I got as far as bllgdF!NovemberVPepsiVII5ng6eabout🌔malaysia and then I got mad when it started throwing too many different numerical requirements at me. Thanks for sharing!

Tapped out at chess notation. It even got me to do wordle again for the first time in a year! I can’t see myself using I,Butt$8pfxxXXXVshellapril881aboutAu🌔india as anything but you never know.

I overfed poor Paul

I'm stuck at the chess notation too. It keeps saying invalid notation, but I think it really means it's a sub optimal move. Given that I haven't played chess since I was a teenager, and then rather indifferently, there's no way I'm figuring out the best move.

Paul was slain ;_;

“The digits in your password must add up to 25” seems to be impassible for me
posted by The River Ivel at 3:34 AM on June 28, 2023

As a hint: A friend of mine complained about that too because they confused "digits" with "numbers".

I could get the digits adding up to 25 to work, but I don't see how to add a trademark.

Never mind about the trademark. I found a solution.

Today's Wordle has C in it.
Which surely means that the Roman Numerals multiplying to 35 can never be satisfied?

it doesn't count lowercase as roman numbers

Apparently roman numerals are only capitalized?

I gave up at 'must include this capcha'. This is cute and amusing enough but it made me think 'oh, this could all be a ploy to get people to solve capchas' and while I don't think that's actually likely, it knocked me out of the mood.

I shamelessly used nextchessmove.com to solve that one because I couldn't figure out what it wanted me to write (it turned out the code needed the x to signal a capture)

I was thinking the same, which led to this thought: Taken separately, these are trivial things - what months does someone usually choose? What letters do they put in uppercase? Which of these sponsors do they prefer? But combined, and with a large set of people answering, they just might be useful in password cracking. Sigh. I hate that the current state of web security shifts people into this hyper-guarded line of thinking, even when we know things are likely just fine.

Tricky set of puzzles though. Whether it's dodgy or not, the same quote from a famous movie AI applies:

"A Strange Game. The Only Winning Move is Not to Play."

Tapped out at Roman numerals. “Roman numerals? They never even tried to teach us that in school!”
posted by General Malaise at 6:54 AM on June 28, 2023 [1 favorite]

For whatever reason the geoguesser part didn’t load for me so I got an empty box saying “must include this country” which was good because then I was finally free to stop playing! (Though Indian try cold guessing a dozen countries)

Am I wrong in thinking some of these are unwinnable? I'm currently stuck with a chess move that equates to an element with a high atomic number, which when combined with the roman numerals = 35, means I have no way to get below 200. Do you just have to reload the page and hope for a better one? (Why am I still playing this?!)
posted by mittens at 7:36 AM on June 28, 2023

SPOILERS in these links: someone on Resetera posted the full set of rules. Also, here's an example of a winning password. Shoutout to a friend on Discord for finding these.

Refresh the captcha until you get one with no numbers
Refresh the hex color until you get one with no/low numbers
search youtube for "XX minute timer" and there will likely be one with XX minutes and YY seconds in the list
it makes you retype the whole thing at the end - capture it with copy/paste before you accept it as your final password

If you're stuck on "invalid chess notation" and your best move puts your opponent in check, be sure to include the + suffix.

The URL for my 24:45 youtube video has an L (50) in it! And it doesn't accept random URL shorteners for the video. Which I think it should - I spent ages periodically pasting in 🐛s for Paul trying match up the atomic numbers.
