Blessed Are The Noisemakers

DJ Food has opened for Art Of Noise twice, once in 2018 and again in 2023. In each occasion, he created a sound collage of work from across the AON spectrum. The individual members are prolific on their own, so while the mixes stray far from AON sources, the journey of each of these mixes is surprising and engaging and remains true to the original group. Blessed Are The Noisemakers - Before, Behind & Beyond The Art of Noise [1h36m, 2018] and Blessed Are The Noisemakers (Diversion 2) [1h34m, 2023] are both posted to Mixcloud.

These are not dance-mix DJ mixes. But there is a lot of art in the noise they contain.

I wouldn't call myself an Art of Noise superfan but pretty well-versed in them and their work... but it was via the first linked mix, at the ~45-minute mark, that I learned that they were behind another one of my desert island selections in pop music, Welcome to the Pleasuredome.

Also linked via MeFi a while ago, another DJ Food collabo: a complete reconstruction of the Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique from its source samples.

Don't sleep on DJ Food, people!

That would be member Trevor Horn. You can look at his discography page on Wikipedia if you want to have your mind blown as to how many albums and how much music you know and probably love he has had a finger in.

DJ Food & DK's Now, Listen! is another one worth seeking out, I can only find it streaming as a full album without tracks broken up but the whole thing is great. My first introduction to David Shire's Taking of Pelham 123 theme which is still one of my favorite movie themes ever, and here it segues into Leonard Nimoy reading Ray Bradbury, what's not to love?

I was a big fan of the art of noise in the 80's. I liked them more when they were less polished and rough. What amazed me was how many versions of some of the songs there are.

I really love the early run of AON albums, but I swear The Seduction Of Claude Debussy is an incredibly interesting album that I return to quite often.
