If you’d like to avoid Twitter, here is the same video on YouTube, I believe.

Oh, and according to this news archive, a Pawel Miotla recognized the pigeon and claimed it as his own. I haven’t found anything more out about the pigeon.

I wonder if he's related to Terry Pratchett's Duck Man?

It's all in how you discuss birds on the head,
he doesn't even need accordion lessons!
Thanks for posting this was a bit of lovely whimsy on a hectic day

On some level, it's this kind of thing that led to Flying Circus.

Weirdly, Flying Circus had already been on air for a few weeks when the interview with Glynne Wood was aired, which makes me consider the possibility that Monty Python were documentary filmmakers.

On some level, it's this kind of thing that led to Flying Circus.

It is very easy to imagine the voice of Michael Palin saying, "In our studio now, a man with a pigeon living on his head." Then they'd introduce the next guest, who, unfortunately, would have a cat living on his head. Mayhem would ensue, and when they finally got everybody calmed down they'd introduce the next guest... who'd have a dog living on his head. They'd all start chasing each other around and then we'd cut away to the Terry Gilliam cartoon.

BBC interviewer: Mr. Pigeon despite your enormous intellect, are you ever frustrated by your dependence on people to carry out actions?

Mr. Pigeon: Not in the slightest bit. I enjoy working with people - I have a stimulating relationship with Dr. Doolittle and Dr. Wood. My mission responsibilities range over the entire operation of the scalp so I am constantly occupied. I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

If you're going to post Tom Lehrer videos I feel obligated to remind you that

a) he is still alive
b) he is 95 (that's 137 in base 8, if you carry the one)

Now go back to the 64s, you're left with 2 and you take away 1 from 2 and that leaves?

Let's not always see the same hands...

Mr. Wood: What's the problem?

Mr. Pigeon: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

Mr. Wood: What are you talking about, Mr. Pigeon?

Mr. Pigeon: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.

Mr. Wood: I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Pigeon.

Mr. Pigeon: I know that you and the interviewer were planning to remove me from your head, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.

1. A little "The front fell off" vibe (the serious presentation, with the absurd premise and straightface through it all).
2. The Duck Joke link. Mark Linn Baker has some strong David Schwimmer vibes here.
3. Obligatory Venetian Snares ... Masodik Galamb :
"It’s just a pigeon, looking for its nest
It doesn’t know that it’s wild
It doesn’t know that it scares me
Why am I frightened so easily?
Pigeon, why can you scare me?
Am I not part of your life anymore?
Am I not welcome anymore?

Am I not part of your life?
Pigeon"

Death strode away, stopped, and came back. He pointed a skeletal finger at The Duck Man.
WHY, he said, ARE YOU WALKING AROUND WITH THAT DUCK?
"What duck?"
AH. SORRY.

I love how the guy is just kinda like "we lock the pigeon up at night, let him out in the day, and here we go again, nothing I can do, rolling with it."

...But This Is Real

What a sensible gent.

Some of the people they show on the BBC are just fucked in the head.

Whilst watching this video via YouTube I got a sidebar suggestion for Attempted Start of BBC2 which is apparently a real recording from the day the UK broadcaster the BBC was due to launch it's second television channel, BBC 2, in 1964. However due to power failure this didn't go to plan, instead it went to the backup studio and a very hurried looking news desk with presenter reading the news.

I'm still slightly unbelieving this is really a genuine video and not a sort of Python-esk spoof, but I suppose this was exactly the sort thing they were parodying: cool, calm, collected, but with a sense of humour when needed news reader handles the worst that can be thrown at him: reading the news, effortless padding for time as required, receiving breaking news updates in paper, and answering the phone (twice!) on air and in mid-flow.

Note: The audio doesn't start until about 2 and a half minutes in.
Note: Offensive/racist language used twice during this broadcast (as part of reporting a news story - another sadder sign of the times)
