There will be creation after destruction, you'll see!

As a fan of crunchy rawk, weird sci-fi and hideously cool haircuts, After Destruction, the newish music video by the Mexican band Descates a Kant, basically plunged a big hypodermic needle of joy directly into my black, shriveled heart. If there was an ass-kicking rock number in The Fifth Element, it would be this. The band's even newer follow-up, Raindrops of Poison, is only slightly less fantastic. Goodbye, User!

After Destruction tickled my fancy as I've been very engrossed with The Culture series and this was just the retro sci-fi vibe I needed. Not sure what I'd call the aesthetic, but it's got some kind of twisted Kubrick 2001 vibes with The Shining turned up.

PEASANT, CARRYING STICKS: We should have more bands with catchy hooks and sci-fi uniforms.
ME, INEXPLICABLY POPPING OUT OF WELL: And yet you are not listening to Polysics. Curious! I am very intelligent.

this video is absolutely great, thanks

I love the dueling-St Vincents* in the middle.

For more Mexican rock, I'm very partial to The Warning, especially this live version of their song Evolve.

Woo! They give me slight Polysics vibes. I just started listening to their first album from 2006 and I'm loving it so far. Thanks for sharing!

Hell yeah! They confuse me and engage me and make me want more; in a sort of post-cool space glam clean punk way.

This is pretty awesome. If you are a fan of “rocket roll” I will also recommend the Phenomenuats on a mission to bring rock around the galaxy.

Damn it. Descartes a Kant, with an r. And I don't know why they're called that, either. Hopefully an informative Wikipedia page will be forthcoming.

From this interview:
{interviewer:} Let's talk about the band’s name. It’s two philosophers, Rene Descartes and Immanuel Kant.

Petrova: Basically, it’s like an analogy to this confluence of postures and ideological philosophy shit that is much like what happens with our sound. If you see genres like ideas, they all come together in this unique, alien, punk music that includes lots and lots of musical forms. Although they’re opposite, it doesn’t matter.
So... opposing philosophies coming together I guess. (In English it would be "Descartes to Kant")

I seriously thought they were Broken Peach and kept asking where the other three singers were.

I take it then that Ursula Hitler's blackened shriveled heart is apparently rehydrated and beating once more. The last Van Der Valk episode comes to mind as well.

My heart requires regular infusions of loud, joyous glam space rock or it turns into a bitter little raisin. Thanks to Descartes a Kant it is plump, pink and moist, for now.

That made no sense until I googled Descartes a Kant. Equal parts Punk, Metal, Pop, Shoegaze and Cabaret, eh? Man, I am so past my Sell By date...
