In the end, guidelines are just that—a guide.

"Evoking an inclusive feeling that lacks pretense"

*whoosh*

and I say that as someone who owns Herman Miller furniture

Yeah I could get rowdy about that. Won't

Are you implying that, in putting "the opposite of cold" on a page utterly bereft of color featuring a desaturated photograph of several of their chairs in a featureless void, they might somehow be missing their own point?

Eh, I don't see it.

10. Color: "Since the creation of the brand, Red has been the primary value that represents Herman Miller." You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. (It's fine for a company to have a consistent set of guidelines, but a color is just a color.)

To be fair, for the rest of it they are more clearly referencing specific shades of a colour. I read the 'values' as referring to the colour codes (CMYK, RGB, etc.) that they list for each colour. Indeed, in the later sections of the 'color' page, after they're no longer defining or listing the number codes, they stop using the term 'value'.

Can we talk about how this page is even public? I worked at a competitor of miller's but I'm sure this is the case everywhere. A tug-of-war between I.T. who can't implement a company-wide network drive to help everyone work off the same documentation of brand standards, and communications, who can't let a single fax go out without the updated logo 👨‍💻👨‍🎨

Isn't this what sharepoint is for?

Sharepoint is for accelerating the GUID exhaustion of the universe.

This is for convincing me that I'm not "Design" enough for this brand.

I helped outfit a new office a few years ago. They make good stuff but heavens to betsy it's pricey. Comfortable chairs, though.
