If you've played Little Alchemy, you've seen this mechanic before, but this version is much sillier (were-dragon??)

Interesting way to use LLMs, as they go. Build a cache of combinations/answers already given; and then when someone finds a unique pair ask the fancy autocomplete to come up with the answer. Low-stakes & a bonus for 'funny' answers, so that's not an issue in this instance.

I ended up creating a bunch of gods and superheroes by first creating a statue and then hitting it with different elements, which seems like a pretty cogent explanation of both the origins of religion and the comic book/action figure market.

I had so many items it was starting to feel a bit random clicky; having realised you could spawn multiples by clicking in the sidebar rather than dragging I went back to try multiples on a single earlier item and was rewarded by keeping things simple:

Is Fish and Chips and Peach Cobbler a well known and beloved combination? I don't think it's even a beliked combination!
I fooled around with this a little yesterday. I didn't realize at the time it was AI powered, but still felt it was too loosey goosey about the connections, and I quit after maybe 15 minutes. I hadn't gotten far enough to realize it's also loosey goosey about what's an actual thing!

It's loosey goosey in a lot of ways. If you end up with a Donald Trump, it basically wipes out anything that you try to combine with it. Same with some other dead ends. I keep trying them hoping they will yield something but they don't.
It's charming and fun. And it's one of the few things I've encountered that is "playing with AI" that doesn't feel somehow like I'm feeding the beast, but rather am getting something non-toxic out of it.
Except for that Donald Trump marker. That's a fucking dead end.

Yeah it's interesting how you so quickly intuit that certain subjects are just original content wastelands in the training data. As well as Trump and Brexit it's surprising how much I've had end up in an ancient Egyptian themed strange attractor.

I find I take six or seven words out of the sidebar and then pick another word and try it against everything there. And then maybe another round after that.
Do you go back to the base elements a lot, or work with later findings more?
People have reported to have found things in this thread that are so well beyond anything I've found yet... So maybe I'm doing this wrong?

If you double click a word on the field you can add a duplicate. That might speed up your process. You're not doing anything wrong, I was in your position 5 minutes ago

it's a fascinating toy. I feel like I got shunted off into a weird peninsula of concepts early on and am fighting to get back out of it. So much of what I'm getting is so mundane and is combining to get things I've already seen or simply is refusing to combine. Or is a dead end plug, which is the worst.
anyway, I'll keep poking around with it. It's not as compelling as it might be, mostly because I can't get out of this cul-de-sac I'm in. But every once in a while I get a thing. Which is where this is bad for me, because doing 100 things to get 1 bit of happiness is a rat pressing a lever hoping for a pellet.

LLMs work on tokens, not necessarily whole words, and ABC + CDE = ABCDE is not an unusual thing to construct, I think. And furthermore some of the things it generates very clearly *are* a product of AI generation, when it just senselessly concatenates things or literally gives up and returns "A + B".

* allow to save the game's state so it won't be lost when the browser's data for the site is reset or lost

I think starting again from scratch (maybe in a different browser so as not to lose current "progress" for comparison) will be really interesting. There's so much all the way from ultra basic to wacky convoluted mentioned in this thread that I've just not found at all yet.
Last night I found that "manicure" was incredibly easy to combine with all sorts of things, much more so than most other one-word items (e.g. the pattern of Aquamanicure, Fishermanicure, Tin Manicure, Cybermanicure, but sadly NOT Supermanicure, Shamanicure, Ozymanicure or Bromanicure).
I'm wondering whether something's going on with it maybe being an unusually lengthy single-token word at root (to distinguish "manicure" from combinations of the much more lexically frequent "man" and "i" and "cure"), that somehow gets partly weighed as separate tokens when the combining process happens. This is based off my completely non-technical non-hands-on "understanding" of LLMs, and is probably just another convenient fable born of monkey-brain pattern-spotting.
Nonetheless I find the way you can start to get a feel for something that's going on here utterly fascinating in whatever that ultimately does reveal about human cognition, psychology, learning, language etcblah.

You can derive Earth from derivatives of Fire, and without a particularly long path (less than ten steps), which is interesting. In playing around with Water last night I didn't see anything that seemed likely to lead to any of the other base elements, though I certainly didn't explore every possibility after the first twenty or so - at a certain point I kinda had to shift from methodically progressing through combinations to just trying things that seemed like they had potential to be interesting.

The more I play with this, the more evident that there are some words and ideas that are prominent nodes in the graph. Like, it seems awfully to get to Unicorn. Mermaid also seems to come up a lot. I get a lot of Batman whenever I combine things that verge on superhero-dom. The things that connect the most seem to be very memeable things too. I wonder if that is intentional.

Also, if you manage to unlock Writer, connecting it with things will often get you to the name of its author. Romer + Writer = Shakespeare, for example. It knows who made Narudo and Dragon Ball Z too, it seems.

Sometimes a term, I think, is at the very edge of its internal knowledge graph, and refused to connect with many things. J.M. Barrie mixes with very little.
And sometimes a connotation with something is overwhelming. Almost anything you connect H.P. Lovecraft to turns into Cthulhu. That might also explain why Midas turns things to gold: what other surface connections does the word "Midas" have? Maybe mufflers?

It's too white, dang. I got to "Better Call Saul" pretty easily and combined it with "Fish and Chips" to create "Better Call Salmon," first discovery, but I couldn't for the life of me get to "Reservation Dogs," I'm sure mostly because it's comparatively niche, but also because you can't get unDisneyfied ideas of native American culture out of the AI no matter what you do. It's all football mascots and Pocahontas.

I got it by combining "Phobia" and "Jockey." And I discovered "Water Lily Demon," "Huckleberry Phantom" and "Deadly Trampoline Park." Also "Bouncy Church." "Anagram" is fun. I applied it to "Rudolph" and discovered "Nardaulph."

I found what may be Excalibur: the ruinously powerful "egg pun." I wish I had not. With it I made "eggplant pun" and "eggnog pun." Puns upon puns, all metastasizing, all eggy. Eventually I created the "eggplant parmesan phoenix" and introduced her to the dashing "eggs benedict cumberbatch," whom someone else discovered. The union was fruitful and I bred the issue to the offspring of my discovery "eggasus" and someone else's creation, the "eggicorn," and that pairing resulted in "eggplant parmesan benedict cumberhorn." I went on from there. And on. And onward still. The egg-pun-ado has now killed the entire day. Whyyyyy...

I've become a bit obsessed with discovering Sweden. I've managed to discover a lot of European contries - Iceland, Finland, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Russia ... - but so far Sweden has eluded me (so to speak). You'd think combining, say, ABBA and Europe or Absolut and Europe would yield Sweden, but no. Oh well, maybe someday.

I've been working on New Zealand and gosh it's tough. I keep ending up with Hawaii or Japan instead. This is part of my ongoing quest to craft Lew Zealand. Which also is tough because anything even related to Muppets is probably going to end up as Kermit.

That's what we're thinking, yes. I just got one for Darth Zebrula. If you keep mashing ridiculous things together long enough you're bound to get one or two, I think.

If you want a lot of easy and boring First Discoveries, see if you can get numbers. Melding them just adds them together, and once you get into 6 digits or so there's a lot that haven't been crafted before.

Hooray, I did it! I got Sweden! I somehow got Nobel Prize (can't remember how in my excitement) and a simple Nobel Prize + Europe got me over the finish line.
