O-H-I-O! I know Metafilter's not exactly a huge group of sports fans, but this was a great (and unexpected) victory! Go Bucks!

Wow... impressive. I hate all Florida teams anyway.

Go Hokies!

Round on the ends and HI in the middle, O - HI - O! That was a hell of a game.

Unexpected? You heathen. All of us true believers never doubted. Now how does that song go?

Don't give a damn about the whole state of Florida
The whole state of Florida
The whole state of Florida
Don't give a damn about the whole state of Florida
Cause I'm from OHIO!

Silly rabbit -- you know that MeFi is only supposed to be for rabid *political* and *cultural* slugfests, not mundane sporting events. No hard feelings?

First, congrats Ohio State, don't tear down the place. Now, that was not a good call in the end zone. Sure it was contact, but I agree with the one official of incomplete. Although Miami battled and Ohio St. had other chances during the 4th quarter, at what I thought was a great Bowl game. Normally, Big Ten games are yawners. No big plays, not great stats, but this was a great game. What I don't like that applies to most, is the use of timeouts to freeze the kickers. They rarely work, but worth using I guess. A tough way to lose in OT, but somehow, I think today they crowned the better team. Not one that was hyped and talked to death. Marquette football rules!!

I had no idea that this was the first national title the Buckeyes have won since 1968. I could swear they've won one or two since... at least it just seems that way. Ehh... what do I know?

Down here at the OU campus you could hear the wilding shouting resounding throughout town.

I generally hate football, but I was pacing through the whole game.

Man... regardless that was an amazing game. 5 different 4th down plays helping decide it! But you must admit OSU got lucky (I was pulling for em) with a pretty much bs 4th down pass interference and two key injuries to Miami (yeah Dorsey got up, but he wasn' t the same after that).

McGahee sure didn't get up... That was a nasty injury. I'm not a fan of ANY player from ANY Florida college, but you gotta feel for the kid. My wife was almost nauseous from that replay. Looked like a complete knee dislocation. Ugly.

But a great game, though.

Be'lal, I too heard the wild shouting down around Norman. I just hope Buckeye fans don't torch Columbus.

Oh, and I am happy for all you Buck fans out there. Great game, glad you won. And I sure hope McGahee's injury isn't career ending. That would just really suck. Double OT coming down to 4th and 1. Wow. Great football game.

Me too, since that's where I am right now. Go Bucks, & if you don't hear from me for a while, assume someone flipped my house & burned it.

Oh what a year for Michigan fans:

Michigan loses game after game.
Ohio wins every game.
Michigan fails to make it into the Rose Bowl.
No Big 10 team makes the Rose Bowl.
Ohio wins a national championship.
.
.
.
Ohio is a dirty for letter word.
Buckeyes are poisonous nuts.

.
.
Maybe next year.
Maybe next year.
(Remember that's what Ohio said last year and the year before and look where they are now, oh the shame...)

That must sting caddis. Too bad for you this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the bucks. Same time next year anyone?

unfortunately for the 'canes someone from florida was a ref for a more important contest a couple years ago - go big ten.

I'm sure this has already been noted but Miami was robbed. I had to watch the whole stinking mess from start to finish because of what I do for a living and I was blown away by the late pass interference call. If I was a Miami fan I would be absolutely beside myself right now. It was a cheap win that will go down in sports history with a big fat asterix next to it.

Let the party begin!

Ahh. The sound of gunfire to the west. The road closings. The vomit-inducing sea of scarlet and gray in every large group of people. Why do I live in Columbus again?

If these 'fans' willing to trash their neighborhoods out of celebration found a worthwhile cause, the world would be a much better place.

I also heard that the H.Q. for the riot cops lost power right before the game ended. They just can't get a break.

As an Oregon fan, I know about getting robbed when it comes to the BCS.

So that call in the end zone was total robbery. There was no contact.

However, my congrats to Ohio State. I wasn't giving them a chance, but they played well, especially the D-line. Huge 4th and 14 conversion in the OT too, and that quarterback is a beast. Hope McGahee gets well, and already looking forward to next year's battle!

Oregon did get robbed last year. Nebraska? What was up with that? Didn't even win the Big XII championship. Oh, didn't even PLAY the Big XII championship.

1)Those of you who apparently feel that the discussion of a bowl game is beneath you, please feel free to exercise your right of abstention. But, please do quit self-righteously clamoring for the post to be deleted and let the rest of us have a little fun on a Saturday. We don't have to be solving the world's problems 24x7, do we?

That being said....

2)The interference call was valid. Even if that weren't the case, I had 3 penalties called on that fella from Miami before the flag even dropped. He held the reciever most of the way to the goal line, had him halfway tackled before he even touched the football, and had his facemask on the way down. Even the referee in question stated that his original call was for holding, at which point he saw the interference with the reception and called that. Be angry about it if you wish, but it was a fair call.

This game was not decided by one call, bad or otherwise. OSU's defense came out with three objectives:

A)Shut down the run
B)Keep Miami's receivers at bay
C)Keep pressure on Dorsey

All three objectives were accomplished, and left a team from Miami(whom, I suspect, didn't know until late last night what it means to be TRULY challenged defensively)wondering what the hell to do.

To put it succinctly, Miami choked under pressure and lost.

Miami respectfully looked past OSU, and they learned the hard way that one should never look past an undefeated team, regardless of which conference they hail from.

I've heard it argued that Miami has better athletes. That may very well be true, but, I would argue that OSU has better football players. That's why they won the game.

Sorry to whizz on anyone's campfire.

Miami was supposed to blow out Ohio last night. At least that's what all the 'canes fans would have you believe.

Now they are claiming that OSU got LUCKY because of a couple injuries and some questionable calls? You were supposed to win by 3 touchdowns Miami! Sour grapes. Boo hoo Miami fans.
