Wow. Just when I was starting to miss journalism.

I was reading sone of the posts over at Media News about this, and they were appropriately disgusted with the state of journalism salaries, but I kept hearing that this approach would lead to hiring inexperienced hacks. I wonder how true that is. Inexperienced, sure, but there are plenty of talented people who can't get into the business because they don't have the right connections, and some of them take unpaid internships - this is just one step away from that.

Unpaid internships are the norm at some TV news shows that make millions for their networks. When I was in college, a friend had been offered an internship at Nightline and had to turn it down because she couldn't find a way to live in New York for the summer without any financial help from the show. I always thought it was a galling practice.

"Went fast, turned left." Now, where's my $100... What? I have to pay you?

Seeing your name in print is cool, but I would think they could have a contest or something to choose the winning author. At least they could donate the money to charity.

Regardless, I'm a NASCAR fan. Anyone want to chip in for me to write the article? Anyone that contributes gets to choose a word that I will work into the article (sorry, nothing obscene).

Anyone who thinks they get leet-cred in this day and age for hating NASCAR is pretty far off base.

Yes, I like watching rednecks turn left, and I'll admit it. I also like watching arrogant Europeans turn left and right, and ballsy-as-hell Europeans go hell-for-leather over unpaved roads.

Motorsport just rules.

No, I hate them because they represent the dumbing down of American motorsports, and turned a hardcore motor racing channel into a 24-hour hee-haw channel.

Or you can spend $500 and get your name on Brett Bodine's car: Sponsor the Brick Car

with $100 you can pick up an all-right copy machine on ebay and a few dozen pounds of paper and start your own zine.
