I can dig it.
Seriously, though, I liked the links. posted by Nothing at 11:05 PM on September 29, 2003
In fairly early elementary school, when I first read that zero was a recent addition to mathematics (in the grand scheme of things) I thought the idea was ridiculous. I mean, it seemed so obvious to have a zero. But then I started getting these little doubts. After all, if numbers are for counting, and there is nothing to count, why have a number for that? Over the course of a few days I talked myself out of believing in zero. My math teacher was less than impressed with my reasoning, but was good about it, and gently argued me back to the side of nothingness. posted by Nothing at 11:12 PM on September 29, 2003

Nothing: If you don't believe in zero does that mean your maths teacher could only give you 1 or above for your tests ? posted by dprs75 at 3:40 AM on September 30, 2003
Nothing is a faux concept. There's always something there, even if we don't possess the instruments to measure it. posted by walrus at 5:38 AM on September 30, 2003
You mean I'm the first one to mention that when you search google for nothing, you get a whole lotta Haughey? posted by taz at 8:30 AM on September 30, 2003
Zero i can deal with, since it's technically a number. It's null that blows my mind. posted by laz-e-boy at 9:14 AM on September 30, 2003
