The revolution will be blogged

Riots in Iran have started, apparently over the recent elections. The revolution, it seems, will be blogged (with pictures). But not televised? Has anyone seen anything on CBSNBCBBCABCFOXESPN about this? If the riots are over the election, why are we hearing from the BBC (and others, presumably) that the election went smoothly? Does anyone have more information about what's happening with these pro-democracy riots? (Via Roger L. Simon).

They stopped.

They stopped.

This is possibly the most useless comment I've ever read on metafilter. Did they stop? I don't know, 'cause you said they did, but you didn't tell me anything about it. Is there a link about how they stopped?

Welll, basically, first they were rioting, but then they weren't.

Hope that helps.

I'm not surprised to get such a childish response from someone whose first name is "Ayn".

FWIW, Google News found this, from a seemingly non-activist, English-language Iranian news source. It doesn't say much more than the activistchat link.

The same search will no doubt find more eventually.

So true. I should pick a grown-up name, like "Interroslam," or "QuestlamationPoint".

But I gather being grown-up means having no sense of humor.

So sad.

I'm sorry, Ayn. It sounded to me like you were saying that A equals A. rschram said that there were no more riots, so there were no more, and you were defending him. Apologies.

According to the sole Google News hit, this paper was their source for the riot information. Anyone who can read Farsi is welcome to take a shot at it; the most I got out of it is that it's the year 1382 in Iran... er, or so it seems. (Does Iran/Islam/something-else have a different calendar?)

(QuestlamationPoint? Hm, that's kinda catchy...)

Looks like it actually is 1382. There's an Islamic calendar, based on lunar cycles, and then there's the Iranian Calendar, which uses a solar year. Uh, just in case anyone's interested.

Nope, nothing on ESPN yet...

Does this thread remind anyone else of the 24 hour news coverage stations? "Wait wait, we've just heard from our reporter in the field, that yes, something may be happening. Oh, something else coming in now, no, no, there is definitely not something happening right now, but there continues to be a strong chance that something could happen in the near future, stay tuned for more information on this developing story."

Brings to mind a favorite Seattle Times headline:
Normal Weather Expected Soon.

Pink Fuzzy Bunny, are you insinuating that 24 hours news coverage stations actually have reporters? Because all I see whenever I flip to one of them are updates on Micheal Jackson's new hairstyle in court.

Then again, all I get are the US cable news channels.

Where's hoder when you need him?

(His weblog [the English-language one, at least] doesn't mention the riots, but he's way plugged in to the Iranian democracy movement and would probably know more.)

I wonder if we actually have an MeFites *in* Iran, or if the Parsis That Be keep the Internet sewed up like they do in the Alleged People's Republic of China.
