"They also reached a settlement so that Disney does not benefit from the movie it turned its back on. Any profits from the film's distribution that go to Miramax or Disney will be donated to charity, the statement said."

"Bowling for Columbine" had a distributor and still never made it to Lincoln, NE. (To be fair, it was finally brought to the University theatre for a few showings -- months after everyone else saw it, but it was pretty obviously that local distributors blackballed it.
Heck, Blockbuster wouldn't even order the DVD for me until I kept pestering them for a solid two months. posted by RavinDave at 2:10 AM on May 29, 2004

Look for an independently distributed film to get ignored a bit worse. This will be seen in the northeast and west coast only, I bet. posted by Mayor Curley at 3:38 AM on May 29, 2004

RavinDave: Bowling played for two weeks at the Dundee here in Omaha. Which is somewhat ironic as we usually have to go to the MRR in Lincoln for films such as that.
On the subject of Supersize getting to NE, probably yes at the MRR, but I doubt it'll get to Omaha, unless the Dundee pick it up. posted by zedbends at 2:24 PM on May 29, 2004
And, if I'd bothered to read the site I'd just linked to, I'd have known that the MRR will indeed be showing Super Size Me from July 7 to 22. So, I think that wraps that one up. posted by zedbends at 2:28 PM on May 29, 2004
Agreed, zedbends -- but the MRR theatre has been known to fold under very little pressure as well (eg: when a Catholic State Senator intimidated them out of showing "Hail, Mary"). Thankfully, that blackeye was years ago and the fool in charge is now cursing another University. Since it moved to its own building, it has offered a very nice selection (any of you guys see "Bubba Ho-Tep"? ;) ) and I'm glad you posted your comment. I needed the reminder to put it prominently back on my calendar. posted by RavinDave at 4:00 PM on May 29, 2004
Harvey Weinstein: "Okay, is everyone on the line? Good. Eisner, nice job, you totally seemed like a tax-break mongering douchebag. Moore, you went to Cannes, won that silly prize from Quentin, and made a suitably big stink. Bob and I get to look like all-time champs of free speech. I think that about covers it. See you boys at the Oscars."

I read somewhere that Moore is still making changes, or at least has the ability to. Cannes showing does not always equal theatrical release. posted by mr.marx at 1:42 PM on May 30, 2004
