Park. Gentlemen, stop your engines. [Flash.] posted by DrJohnEvans (28 comments total)
That is a remarkably faithful simulation of my inability to parallel park in real life. posted by Armitage Shanks at 12:15 PM on June 10, 2004
excellent fun. for those who never went to parking school: pull up right next to the car in front; crank it all the way to the right; back up halfway; crank it all the way to the left; back up the rest of the way.
voila!
8.86 is my best, but i'm sure someone will do much better very soon. posted by mrgrimm at 12:19 PM on June 10, 2004
I got frustrated after 5 mins or so, and drove round in round in circles, screaming "wombat". posted by Orange Goblin at 12:32 PM on June 10, 2004
I keep trying to hit the 45-degree angle right on, but that car has some powerful inertia. posted by DrJohnEvans at 12:40 PM on June 10, 2004
6.66 - I am the beast of parking posted by fruitbat at 12:41 PM on June 10, 2004
yeah. it won't swing at all, but at least the wheels take time to turn, rather than steer instantly.
i can do it in my car fairly easily, but i had trouble doing it with this.
i wonder if i can hook up a USB steering wheel? posted by knapah at 12:49 PM on June 10, 2004
44:13 seconds! Oh yeah!
It can be done in under that? posted by Richat at 1:00 PM on June 10, 2004
Are you all posting your scores, or your times? I had 29.06 in 17.20 seconds. So I'm either amazing, or sucktacular (I'm guessing sucktacular). posted by JonahBlack at 1:02 PM on June 10, 2004
And don't forget to convert from metric. posted by DrJohnEvans at 1:05 PM on June 10, 2004

scratch that. 4:16 seconds. 119.85 points. I am one with my vehicle. posted by GeekAnimator at 1:10 PM on June 10, 2004
I'm amazed at how fun people find simulations of things they hate doing for real. (I prefer online simulations of things I don't get to experience daily. Cough.) posted by XQUZYPHYR at 1:15 PM on June 10, 2004
6:33 seconds, score 78.93
It appears that the score is some sort of inverse of your time (assuming no chocs).
pull up right next to the car in front; crank it all the way to the right; back up halfway; crank it all the way to the left; back up the rest of the way.
Thought while backing up, you cranked right at the parked cars half way mark, yet with this game your way worked :P posted by thomcatspike at 1:34 PM on June 10, 2004
tips: it's all about getting it down to two fluid motions. 1) using the up and left arrow keys to slide next to the car above the spot, and 2) using a combo of the down+right then down+left to back into the spot.
if you screw up, don't bother fixing it, start over. posted by GeekAnimator at 1:35 PM on June 10, 2004
3:43, 119 points, because to get that fast I had to bang into the cars. posted by Stan Chin at 6:26 PM on June 10, 2004
I tried for about ten minutes, never parked. Gave up. posted by bargle at 7:52 PM on June 10, 2004
3:41 still, but 131 Points. And with that I'm done. The real trick is getting in position to put your wheel to the curb when you straighten out, so you immediately stop. posted by Stan Chin at 8:23 PM on June 10, 2004
This site is proof of the importance of interface design. With a car, I can do this, no problem. With keyboard arrow keys, I'm a menace. posted by mosch at 11:47 PM on June 10, 2004
awadwatt, thank you for the video! Didn't Charlize Theron pull off something like that in 'The Italian Job'? posted by of strange foe at 7:55 AM on June 11, 2004

was that subtle reference to a virtual hernia check? i haven't seen that Flash game yet.
awadwatt, i know i've seen a whole show on that competition, but i can't remember where/which network. it think it must have been Record Breakers, or something like that. posted by mrgrimm at 10:20 AM on June 11, 2004
