Amazed anyone could build a boat from such minimal plans. Yet people did, these boat plans were very common in the 1950s. I know my dad built one as a teenager. Master woodworkers were a lot more common back then when everything was DIY from scratch by hand and not pre-assembled. posted by stbalbach at 12:41 PM on June 22, 2004
A friend of mine built a boat from this place. I would love to get some spare cash and build boats full-time. posted by crazy finger at 12:43 PM on June 22, 2004
It would be an excellent project to undertake if I had the time, space and money to do it.
If my dad were still alive then I'd definitely send him there and get him started as I'm sure he'd have loved the challenge. posted by fenriq at 12:51 PM on June 22, 2004
Yep crazy finger, Chesapeake Lightcraft are the coolest boats. Sure beats cutting up marine plywood. posted by stbalbach at 12:54 PM on June 22, 2004

No, you wouldn't - anything you do full-time becomes just another job, as most people who manage to make a career out of their passion soon find out. posted by dg at 5:57 PM on June 22, 2004

I guess I'm a heathen. The most fun I've ever had in a boat was when I was allowed to borrow one of these for a weekend.
Sailing is a relaxing way to spend a day, but breaking 100mph on the water, now that's excitement. The only problem is that it's worse for the environment than one of these. posted by mosch at 9:58 AM on June 23, 2004
