if ya go to Yann Bertrand's site, you can download these and many more photographs at 1024x768. posted by GeekAnimator at 4:12 PM on August 10, 2004
Please note that the site linked in the post is thieving Yann's bandwidth. Maybe Matt could do Yann a favor and swap the links out. posted by monju_bosatsu at 4:27 PM on August 10, 2004
I'm utterly addicted to this gentleman's work. Also, I saw him in a documentary, and he appears to have the best life around: travel, meet exciting people, lean out of open helicopters.
re bandwidth theft: it's also undoubtedly promoting Yann's books, so I doubt it would bother him. Buy now! posted by Pretty_Generic at 4:30 PM on August 10, 2004
also, I want TIFFs goddamnit! posted by Pretty_Generic at 4:32 PM on August 10, 2004
Absolutely beautiful. I'm mesmerized by so many of these photographs. posted by iconomy at 4:34 PM on August 10, 2004
P_G: It's only promoting his books if you know the pictures are his. There's no link on that site indicating where the photographs come from. You can only figure it out by looking at the url of the pictures themselves, something I doubt everybody does. posted by monju_bosatsu at 4:46 PM on August 10, 2004
I think Bertrand has said that the captions and related data are more important than the photographs themselves posted by Pretty_Generic at 4:46 PM on August 10, 2004

Yep. Naver is a Korean portal site that recently started doing blogs, too. This is bandwidth theft, as I mentioned here when I linked this, yesterday. Have a look here for some more similar work (in French) by this and other artists. posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 5:33 PM on August 10, 2004
This is why I didn't go into photography. I don't have it, he does. woof... posted by fluffycreature at 6:58 PM on August 10, 2004
London had an open-airgallery show of these a few summers ago. It was very cool to see them blown up to about 5 feet across. (apparently the show travelled all over the world) posted by shoepal at 8:47 PM on August 10, 2004
Thanks for providing the link to Bertrand's own site. The pictures are gorgeous, though the relentless high contrast/high saturation look starts to feel forced after a while. They do an excellent job of tickling my wanderlust, and the original page was terribly frustrating because I'd see jaw-droppers like this, this, or this and have no idea where on the globe they might be... posted by Mars Saxman at 10:53 PM on August 10, 2004

Get in a helicopter, go away from the city, get out your 645 camera filled with velvia, bump whatever the meter says down 1/2 to 1 full stop. Avoid shooing sky. There you go.
Oh, and have a huge travelling team to cart your hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment around, then get all miffed when asked about what you shoot with as if it "really doesn't matter." Bah.
I'm far more impressed when people can homebrew it.
truly beautiful...thanks! posted by amberglow at 11:56 AM on August 11, 2004

That's silly. (see civil disobedient)

It's in Vienna right now. The exhibition is set up outdoors in front of the Museumsquartier.
