Highly recommend Two Bear Mambo and Mucho Mojo and pretty much the entire Hap Collins-Leonard Pine series. Man, can Joe write a fight! posted by geekyguy at 1:49 PM on September 2, 2004
eh, bubba ho-tep was pretty lame, as a movie at least. good acting though. posted by bob sarabia at 1:55 PM on September 2, 2004
Though Bubba Ho Tep wasn't that great, Lansdale has written some terrific stuff. Thanks for the link! posted by dobbs at 2:53 PM on September 2, 2004
Bubba Ho-Tep was enjoyable schlock but certainly not high cinema. 81% at RT.
I was disappointed with the disjointed unbelievability of The Drive-In but really enjoyed the Hap-Leonard series. Worth looking at. posted by geekyguy at 2:54 PM on September 2, 2004
...or wonder who came up with the idea for Bubba Ho-Tep
There's no wondering necessary. Lansdale, and only Joe Lansdale, could have come up with Bubba Hotep. It's so Lansdale it's more Lansdale than Lansdale ;-) And how can Bruce Campbell as Elvis not be classic?
Fiction and film aside, I'll always associate Lansdale with Western Horror comics and JonahHex (with artist Timothy Truman). Here's some (relatively) new stuff. And this always reminds me of John Findlay's Texarcana; if you like Lansdale, you'll probably get a kick outta Findlay. posted by Shane at 8:00 PM on September 2, 2004
Loved Bad Chili. Good stuff. As one of my writing exercises, I've been trying to write some Western horror, albeit without much luck... posted by Samizdata at 11:35 PM on September 4, 2004
