Urballoon: "a balloon equipped with a projector and wireless connection to the web that enables people to submit content online and broadcast it in public spaces." Today's the last day to submit for projection in NY.

I saw it Friday and it wasn't really that interesting, but then again it was only floating about 10 feet off the ground, so the projection was about the size of a 17" monitor. I suspect if it was actually floating 3 stories up like the website claims, it would be a bit cooler.

Cool. But is it really "online"? You can't "really" do that because pretty soon you'd end up with with goatse on the sidewalk.

It could be a wonderful "communal" experience. A balloon (or whatever projector) such as this is quite cheap to maintain and it very portable. There could be a contest for content. Anybody, not just artists and new-media designers could participate. Ordinary photos by ordinary people of ordinary things. Then the winner "essays" would be projected for a couple of weeks in a random order.

It would give a whole new meaning to public art.

This is a really good idea. I've got to organise one.
