This is great.
My favorite is the one with the stalactites.

Moral outrage from some humorless MeFite in 5...4...3...
posted by jennaratrix at 1:04 PM on January 21, 2005

I love the shots, too bad they were all scanned wholesale out of a wonderful little book. I first saw it in a bookstore in Portland, ME, and loved it then.

I'm not sure how I feel about it being all over the internets now.

:/

Waaaaaaah!
posted by konolia at 1:17 PM on January 21, 2005

Yeah, I own both of these books. I somehow doubt that this page is legally using the work.

p.s. Have two bunnies, still find the book amusing.

Aw, none of them vibrate. To death.

The one with the balloon and airplane is a total ripoff of Don Hertzfeldt's Billy's Balloon.
posted by sciurus at 1:27 PM on January 21, 2005

This is not normally my sort of humor. And I'm smiling. The knives/electromagnet especially. The copyright violation is one thing, but on the other hand I would have never heard of this book otherwise. And now I'm forwarding the amazon link to three other people...

Good one, ColdChef.
(on preview, spell check suggests cloche for ColdChef. Hm. 'a woman's close-fitting helmet-like hat'. Learn something new every day...)
posted by bitmage at 1:30 PM on January 21, 2005

Very funny, it sucks a bit to learn that they are ripped off, but I like them anyway and laughed all through.
posted by OmieWise at 1:34 PM on January 21, 2005

I saw the book for this in the store last month and realized there would be no way I'd be leaving without buying it for my sister for Christmas.

Is that an ipod? Weird.
posted by metaculpa at 1:54 PM on January 21, 2005

That's two copyright violations in the last three days. When are the feds gonna roll up on us?
posted by The God Complex at 1:57 PM on January 21, 2005

Is that an ipod? Weird.

I noticed that, too. I thought it would have been funny if they just had one of the bunny flashing the ipod and walking around a seedy neighbourhood, but then we would have had another fight on our hands ;)

I've got the book, and sat my bunny down next to me while I looked through it. She tried to eat it.

I got the book for Christmas. I especially like the juggling chisels during a total eclipse.

Oh man, I don't want to be the morally outraged mefite...

Some of these Rube Goldberg-esque ones are hilarious and disturbing at the same time (tied to palm trees / rockets). Clever and out there kind of stuff!

...

OK fine, no one found the D-Day one tasteless?

posted by yhbc at 8:21 PM on January 21, 2005

themadjuggler: Yeah, I didn't really crack a smile at that one. But overall this stuff is hilarious. It's the sheer volume and creativity that really makes this hilarious.
posted by baphomet at 8:21 PM on January 21, 2005

Grrr, I used the adjective twice. That last word was supposed to be "hysterical".
posted by baphomet at 8:22 PM on January 21, 2005

This is really the worst type of infringement because there's absolutely nothing attributed, just someone trying to take credit for someone else's work.

That said, the library I used to work at had several copies of the book and I was very amused by it.

I don't really get what's happening here. Can somebody please 'splain it to me?

(I hope the publicity results in more sales, at least)

Suicide by concrete mixer, taz?
posted by punilux at 1:36 AM on January 22, 2005

Maybe so... The suicide "m.o." here seems quite different than the others which take quite a lot of delight in the technical process, whereas in this one it looks like it just skipped ahead to the outcome. Or something. I guess still bunnies run deep.
posted by taz at 4:37 AM on January 22, 2005

Wonderful stuff. Reminds me of 101 Uses For A Dead Cat which was very popular round these here parts some years ago.

I showed these to our 2 bunnies and they immediately became very depressed.

I will sue....be sure of that!
posted by JtJ at 6:59 AM on January 22, 2005

taz, I didn't get that one either, and if it is 'suicide by concrete mixer,' I think it's lame.

I liked the star trek one, but the second panel, which was already implied, makes it much less clever.

Select option:
A: Inform other evil
machines of error
B: Try not to think
about it

Option B selected.

I feel that 90% of the humor comes from the other parts of the comic.
posted by breath at 12:17 PM on January 22, 2005

I think the concrete mixer one is a bit more convoluted than just that. Perhaps the bunnies pissed off the Mob. Isn't Jimmy Hoffa supposed to be embedded in a bridge?
posted by Faint of Butt at 12:43 PM on January 22, 2005

Everyone knows that Hoffa is buried under the end zone at Giants' Stadium. Anyway, if that's the case, those bunnies have not biodegraded, which is not consistent with some other bunny deaths in which skeletons are shown.

Felt the same way with the bunny ordering Harry Potter online. Cartoon could have stopped with the sad creature sitting by the mail slot.

I must confess I don't get this one.
posted by kindall at 4:43 PM on January 23, 2005

The bunny is flipping the switch that provides power to the outlet, which will cause the iron to heat up and burn him to a crisp, kindall.

And having viewed these, I now feel terribly sad and I want to hug something cuddly and furry. Poor depressed bunnies.
posted by Dreama at 7:02 PM on January 23, 2005

I thought that might be the case, Dreama, except for the minor detail that outlets don't have power switches on them.

Besides, the iron will take a while to heat up. Why not just plug it in, then pull it over on top of you?
posted by kindall at 9:30 PM on January 23, 2005

Some do-outlets that is.
posted by konolia at 4:35 AM on January 24, 2005

all my outlets do, which is bad because I accidently flipped the switch and turned all my computers off cold here a minute ago. ARGH!
*tapes all outlets into "on" position.*

I think it's common in Europe.

And C_D, that Star Trek one is a good choice for favorite.
