Back in the 80s, when I was growing up in the Philippines, I remember Ronald McDonald was a cultural icon. My private (buddhist) school actually hired Ronald to come and do magic tricks for the kids assembled in the temple!
Picture this: a red and yellow clown soliciting volunteers for a wand trick in front of a 10-foot-tall golden Buddha...
This comingling of the sacred and profane obviously traumatized her. It's some kind of Stockholm sydrome! posted by growli at 10:25 PM on February 9, 2005
Please tell me one of you has these images mirrored.... this looks really cool, and she's a flip to boot. An ex of mine is a flip and i have since had a special place in my heart for flips.
note: flip is not a term that any Philippina i know gets pissed about, typically i just get called a honkey in response. posted by sourbrew at 11:27 PM on February 9, 2005

I'm not sure that I get it. Does she work for McDonalds? Or just dress like that? Will she be sued for impersonating Ronald McDonald (tm)? Is she related to that Pokemon woman with the yellow VW beetle? So many questions, head hurting. Read the comments and see the 75 people (and their icons!) who want to be her friend, etc. posted by fixedgear at 3:31 AM on February 10, 2005
I'm surprised this doesn't make me want to eat mcdonalds. I'm sitting here indifferent. Supersize Me did make me want to eat McDonalds, an hour and a bit of watching a guy eat it was too much to watch and not have any myself. posted by 13twelve at 3:41 AM on February 10, 2005

In this picture, she sure does adopt a lot of poses with the Ronald statue. But not the one I've seen in most Internet pics of people posing with the Ronald statue.
I wonder howcum. posted by soyjoy at 7:37 AM on February 10, 2005
