Staff Sergeant Brown, a New York City Police Officer trained in vehicle speed estimation, estimated the car was traveling at 50 mph and believed that it would not be able to stay on the road around the curve at that speed.which was right before the vehicle was strafed.
CBS news has reported that a U.S. satellite had filmed the shooting and that it had been established the car carrying Calipari was traveling at more than 60 mph as it approached the U.S. checkpoint in Baghdad. So much for the "we were driving slowly" bit. If they want to claim that the Americans were still trigger-happy that's one thing, but it draws the Italian credibility into pretty severe question.
