Some people in their comments obviously don't get that it's a joke. I think that's my favorite part. Check out the older entries.

Eek. At least NinjaPirate:- you didn't bash me yourself, I thank you for that. Poor first post... I'll give you that, but it made me smile.

Our children are being exposed to filth that causes sexual tendencies and drug addiction.

damn. never any embedded links when you need 'em.

Please may I have my click back?

Given. Sorry to have wasted your time.

Funny, I thought adolescence caused sexual tendencies.

I thought it was a cute post. We wouldn't want all FPPs to be like this one, but once every so often it's kind of nice to just get a quick, cheap snicker from an FPP.

Chuckled...Hell, I agreed with it.

ever since matt opened the membership, "noobie" bashing has become quite the sport on metafilter. it is almost as much sport as pointing out a double post.

the hounds need a nice fox like mnemosyne run across the board every now and then. don't take it personally mnemosyne. flamed is what is Faint of Butt is doing to orthogonality.
posted by three blind mice at 6:02 AM on June 6, 2005

Thank you three blind mice.

Aye. I've been reading me-fi for three years now, and God knows what prompted me to post this after seeing so many bright eyes crashing to the grey earth.

I'd rather be the fox than the hound.

mnemosyne, fwiw, my wanting click back was more a dig at the stupid premise of the site rather than an attack on the fpp per se. There's worse that get posted with more content.
posted by peacay at 6:34 AM on June 6, 2005

Complete with GoogleAd for 'Cocaine Surveys'. Ah, the irony. Not a great post, but worthy none the less. It's funny, it's on the internet, it's here. I'll double-post this in three days time and you can all pile on then, 'kay?

On preview: evening, Peacay.
posted by bdave at 6:37 AM on June 6, 2005

Just wait... they will find a way to cut down on it. I get the feeling the medium is appreciated less and less.

Well, unless you're using for unreal tournament servers or b2b commerce. Anyways.
posted by nervousfritz at 6:41 AM on June 6, 2005

mnemosyne, I confess that this meekness strategy has caught me off guard. You're less the fox/hound and more like the catfish who's been wise enough never to have taken the bait.
If one can ever call a lady "catfish" and retain any dignity.

Sorry about my unkind anticipation; I shall pack away the chair and wait for the next rumble.
Good luck getting some bright flying eyes of your own, or something.

"pile o'shite, that's an interesting name."

I like this from the petition signatures: "I will DESTROY you with my GIGANTIC MANHOOD which DOMINATES the world. Its 50 foot WIDE and will abuse you while you SLEEP. BOUNCE ON IT. ENJOY IT. but dont forget its not free."
posted by LarryC at 7:11 AM on June 6, 2005

NinjaPirate, you suceeded in maintaining your dignity whilst comparing me to a catfish.

Keep the chair out, you'll never know when I might start linking to Fark...

(thank you, you're a gentleman)

G'day Bdave!!

Oh, come now, tbm. That's hardly a flame; it's a justified call-out.

Back on topic, down with the Internet!
posted by Faint of Butt at 8:06 AM on June 6, 2005

I stand corrected, Faint of Butt.

flamed nailing an FPP to a post so that others can set fire to it is what is Faint of Butt is doing to orthogonality.

I never said it wasn't justified.
posted by three blind mice at 9:28 AM on June 6, 2005

on preview, LarryC, I never thought to check out the petition....

I poopie an ma paints an poopies in da pants oh poopie my pants I have a poopie why dont you lick it then the boobie flew out the window in a magical poopie puff of schnoke an a want to make poopies with everyone and my poopies in my pants are all nesting and poopie-ing together thats my story and the end i hope you liked it now I'm going to buy eggs bye

Now this is a write-in vote.

This FPP gets better all the time. Down with the Internets.

I thought it was pretty hilarious that the last few hundred signatures were "pending approval." Based on the previous signature comments, I'm assuming the approval process is not awfully rigorous.

the only reason you guys don't want the internet banned is because you're too cheap to buy stamps
posted by pyramid termite at 12:35 PM on June 6, 2005

My favorite:

After an encounter with the internet, all my 6 sons turned gay. I have since deleted the inetrnet from my computer. Nobody should endure what I had to. Ban the internet.
posted by joedan at 1:33 PM on June 6, 2005

I'd like to point out that this is the first internet petition I have ever bothered to sign. What a worthy cause.

more petition comment goodness:

Jesus saves ... He pass's to Gretsky ... He shoots, HE SCORES!!! I'm surfing porn even as I write this. Is that bad?

I support the intarweb ban. I once was looking for ideas on a lemon-themed party, and maaan it didn't go so well.

oxymoronic, no. ironic, yes.
posted by UbuRoivas at 7:53 PM on June 6, 2005

Ubu beats me too it.

...what are you people babbling about?
posted by Baby_Balrog at 8:39 PM on June 6, 2005

Sorry to be a pedant, but oxymoronic is the most apt term. 'Greek oxumron, from neuter of oxumros, pointedly foolish.' Where as ironic leans more towards 'Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended' or 'humorously sarcastic or mocking'.

I think you were questioning the use because oxymorons are usually a combination of contradictory terms like 'dead right' or 'an educated guess'. However, in the airy world of writing and metaphysics, the link pertains to be an oxymoron. I chose the word. It makes sense. I'll keep it.

(Thank you to Dictionary.com for some of the explanations)
posted by mnemosyne at 3:55 AM on June 7, 2005

the petition might be phony but the woman isn't. She's downright nutty.

And mnemosyne, it's not an oxymoron. It's hypocritical.

It's neither. It's a flimsy satire.

Milton, that link is what the FPP needed. What a great "interview".
