Hilarious issue! I was laughing pretty hard at the "I'm like a Chocoholic, except with booze" article. And, of course, all the Mayhem stuff too. Definitely up there on the Onion "best of..." list, that's for sure.

Is it slashdotted? I haven't been able to reach their servers for hours.

Definately best origianl material in a while-I hope the election takes another few weeks so we can see if they keep it up.

Must be good. It’s got three links on this site since going up.

Don’t forget Suck’s Dejection 2000. “Suck celebrates the worst election in the history of the universe!”

(Not really updates, just a collection of pieces on the election.)

It was very slow yesterday morning, which is the first time I ever remember having trouble with their site (exception: one time my ISP didn't update their DNS).

Note that the front-page article "Strom Thurmond Begins Preparing Cabinet" really is within the realm of possibility.

Best online edition? Perhaps. Best edition ever? No way. The Onion was much better before it went online, and before all the good writers left.

Yeah. Back when it was just, like, UNDERGROUND and only on PAPER and it was COOL 'cause you had to, like, KNOW about it. And I was COOL 'cause I knew about it. You, however, are not COOL 'cause you didn't read The Onion until it was on the Web and then it was, like, OVER. Loser.

I've read Onions going back to when you could only score them in Madison, and I think the writing has been pretty consistent over the years. If it seems like the quality went down, maybe that's just because over the years, the novelty and shock value wore off. I mean, after reading something like "It's Not a Crack House, It's a Crack Home", you learn to expect absolutely anything...

I've tried writing comedy. Tragedy is easy, and comedy is damned hard. I don't know how they maintain consistent quality but they do, all while avoiding showboating individual writers. Well, Scott Dikkers, maybe a little.

As an adult I'm awfully tired of the "now that they're popular they're not as good" meme.

Just like Metafilter: it was much better before it went online, and before all the good posters left.

well, it's true, it's not as funny as it used to be. being from Madison, WI i can attest to that.

that having been said, it is still a great publication.
