On the plus side, far fewer tornado fatalities so far this year (only 5) as compared to 2004 where we had 17 by this time last year. Strangely, 4 of the 5 from this year were in January. posted by spock at 9:39 AM on July 6, 2005
Holy crap--those are amazing photos. I am never, ever, ever going outside again.
My favorite is this one, which looks to be straight out of War of the Worlds. posted by yankeefog at 9:47 AM on July 6, 2005
Crazy stuff. My mother and her family lived through the Twin Twisters storm that was linked in the post. Elkhart, IN was hit really hard by it. The city was for many years the center of mobile home manufacturing for the country, giving further credence to the 'trailers attract tornados' theory. My uncle was in the national guard and was one of the men who had to prevent looting after the disaster. Looting! In Indiana! Craziness.
But, yes. Crazy-ass huge storms... posted by verb at 10:02 AM on July 6, 2005

Twin twisters is damn scary. The pummeling between the two must have been worse than hell. posted by five fresh fish at 10:14 AM on July 6, 2005

You know those tornadoes that are just, like, double tornadoes? posted by NewBornHippy at 11:19 AM on July 6, 2005
Creepy and yet totally cool. Tornadoes freak me out completely, to the point where they make regular appearances in my nightmares, but I love to watch tornado footage. posted by corianderstem at 11:24 AM on July 6, 2005
