I'm sure I've missed at least a dozen others. In addition, nearly every week and day of the month has been designated as National Something or Other day. Today, August 5th is National Mustard Day.

Wait a minute. The link I provided for National Mustard Day says August 6th, but according to another source August 6th is National Fresh Breath Day. posted by three blind mice at 1:53 AM on August 5, 2005
You're going to need some cheeses for all those sandwiches. posted by Wolfdog at 3:37 AM on August 5, 2005
Mmmm, sandwiches.
/me flies the Union Jack, in honor of the sandwich.

Is the correct expression "dead serious" or "deadly serious"? I derail because I care... and because I'm curious. posted by Eideteker at 5:23 AM on August 5, 2005
August is also:
I say we celebrate by having an artist paint us designing a building, with our families, while having a back-to-school pedicure, all while eating a canned catfish sandwich with mustard (followed by a needed tic-tak for fresh breath). Afterwards we can invent a device that hypnotically allows you to play better golf in the park. posted by Pollomacho at 5:47 AM on August 5, 2005
A sandwich is certainly a relevant subject of obsession. And of course, the key to any great sandwich is the bread (in case you're ever in Boston). posted by jalexei at 6:19 AM on August 5, 2005
How 'bout National Un-sandwich Month for the low-carbers among us? posted by Doohickie at 6:44 AM on August 5, 2005
Sandwiches, subs, pitas, tacos, burritos, even a slice of pizza folded over itself...any food item that consists of ingredients wedged within any type of bread, and that you can pick up and eat by hand, is a-ok by me.

February. If it's a leap year, it still ends on the 28th. posted by trondant at 8:07 AM on August 5, 2005
Sandwich month? Well! This thread has inspired me to walk down to the deli for lunch today. (Shut up, I live in the suburbs. That's still a mile or two.) posted by danb at 8:16 AM on August 5, 2005

No, emphatically no. During August you have to eat the sandwich. It's the law, now. posted by Wolfdog at 8:22 AM on August 5, 2005
jalexei, Clear Flour's croissants make me weep. I wish I still lived in Boston.
1) I'm often surprised by egg salad sandwiches -- they are always better than I remember them.
2) I am a sucker for a large Schlotzki's Deli reuben sandwich -- even though it's a chain.
3) Speaking of chains, for some reason I don't like it when McDonald's or Burger King call their sundry burgers "sandwiches," as in "would you like the value meal or just the sandwich?"
4) Cucumber slices MAKE a chicken salad sandwich.
5) Tuna salad requires ONLY tuna and mayonnaise (and perhaps some black pepper). I think it's the fewest components required to constitute a "salad". posted by Toecutter at 6:16 PM on August 5, 2005
