So an endless cesspool of the lowest denominator tripe that it really turned out to be...not so much? posted by parallax7d at 1:52 PM on August 11, 2005
Berners-Lee did a very gracious job of answering some very stupid questions there.
Boy, do I get sick of hysterical reporters trying to scare people away from the web. posted by frykitty at 2:14 PM on August 11, 2005
I thought the reporter was being pretty adversarial too, but then I wrote it off as a cultural thing since we're not used to an aggressive media stateside. Glad I wasn't the only one. posted by revgeorge at 3:45 PM on August 11, 2005
BBC reporters are often curt and to the point. I believe it is trained into them at an early stage. You can hear this quite cleary in their radio broadcasts, where they are quite happy to interrupt long-winded guests. posted by Rothko at 3:50 PM on August 11, 2005

I didn't mind the curtness, I mind the inflammatory questions.
LOOKOUT WORLD! THERE'S PORN! AND BAD PEOPLE! AND NOTHING GOOD, EVER! AHHHHH1111ONE.
I find it impossible to reconcile the notions of "Mark Lawson" and "inflammatory" in my mind - Mr Lawson is a very fine man in many ways, but he also possesses many of the qualities of an unadventurous potato. I feel those questions are probably asked out of blandness rather than out of reactionary fervour. posted by flashboy at 5:26 PM on August 11, 2005
I dunno. At this point, his audience could identify, chuckling, with the kinds of things he said. I don't think it's possible to scare people away from the web anymore.
But no, Lawson didn't come off very well, while TBL seemed to have enormous patience. posted by dhartung at 7:23 PM on August 11, 2005
The BBC has been getting a bit too confrontational these days - They all think they are Paxman or something. Got to be controversial. That was a pretty poor interview. Good responses by Tim though. posted by twistedonion at 4:17 AM on August 12, 2005
