And their names all start with 'R' and they all live in Hull, presumably allegedly.

Actually it's a shame the thumbs are a bit shabby in quality. The larger jpegs are pretty good but I must admit, after looking at maybe 30 of the artists' works, that there weren't a hell of a lot of standout shots. There were some however that made the digging worthwhile. But....different strokes &c..

Where's Suze Randall?

I'm sure that, were I a female photographer, I would much rather be viewed as a photographer than a "woman photographer", so this link has led to me feeling a bit conflicted. Any advocacy for a subsection of society (be it based on race, religion, gender, etc.) is a tacit acknowledgment that such advocacy is necessary due to some bias in society. I find it regrettable that such bias exists, but am also realistic enough to know that advocacy (or subdivision) may be necessary until that time that such bias disappears.

Then there is the argument that the subdividing/labeling/advocacy contributes to the continuation of the bias. <segue into affirmative action derail here>

I have never given a moment's thought to the gender of the photographer when I look through Flickr. And I've never been tempted to leave a comment like "Nice photo, for a girl" as I'm pretty sure that would be seen as sexist and just kind of stupid.

Was there a particular reason you linked to the R section?

Where're Bernice Abbot, Ruth Bernard, Sally Mann,
Dorothea Lang, Cindy Sherman?
And indeed, Suze Randall.
