Coke's new marketing campaign is pretty cool. "For '05, Coca-Cola asked 5 design groups from 5 continents to create and share visions of optimism"

I hear that if you've been with a chick and she douches with coke, she won't get pregnant.

Now that's a vision of optimism!

Excellent first post, elquien. Forgive me for not clicking on your link, though.

elquien, maybe you should have waited until you had made some posts that weren't corporate shilling before you made a post that was. This way, it kinda looks like you're a scumbag viral marketer, even if you actually aren't.

No connection to corporations whatsoever. I just really liked the Guided by Voices video. Forgive me for being distracted by bright shiny websites...

As if we're gonna need help finding anything to do with a major marketing campaign conducted by a global corporate entity.

(Not to interrupt a good pile-on, but didn't we give Apple's product release a free pass last week? So... its OK unless the link refers to a carbonated beverage?)

So these two penquins are standing next to each other, in a REALLY fancy lounge, sipping coke....

One says to the other, "Why you look like you could be wearing a tuxedo".

To which the other penquin says, "Who says I'm not?"

so, corn syrup in an aluminum bottle styled in vintage Introduction to Illustrator CS, artificially restricted to the MDMA and Viagra set is a vision of optimism? Marketing continues to eat itself.

it's still the same coke, the bottles are banal, the web design is a retread from the 90s.

how many cliches can you name.

this is not cool, this is yawn.

how many millions were sunk into this campaign? what a waste.

I'm switching to pepsi

But Apple's cool and groovy and pure....

The only difference I can see is that this is a link to a marketing campaign, Apples was a physical product.

Must be alright to iMarket on mefi

Well hey, they got The Designers Republic to do one, so at least they tried. I do like that they glow in the dark, but I'm easily pleased.

Sometimes I wonder: If they stopped all marketing and advertising for Coke, would people still buy it? I say yes, because it's just always there.

I believe the rule is that it's not OK unless it refers to Apple.

-10 Kool Kreds for DR then (not that I can say anything as the company I work for has worked on Flash stuff for the mighty CocaColaCorp - but then, I'm not cool and I rarely choose who we work for)

My vision of optimism involves a world without caramel-colored carbonated sugar-water.
posted by bshock at 8:45 AM on September 13, 2005

but... they'll GLOW in the blacklights of the club!!! Pepsi Blue as this might be, Pepsi Blue never glowed. (did it?)

I am going to START going to exclusive clubs and lounges so i can be seen drinking coke while all those suckas sip cosmos and appletinis, which by the way, DO NOT GLOW. suckas!

I find this hilarious. How do you put so much effort into the design and still sell fructose-cornsyruped battery acid?
posted by destro at 8:48 AM on September 13, 2005

It's about time somebody found a way to package and sell optimism. I've spent far too long actually thinking about a better future. My life will be so much easier when I can just drink Coke and know that everything will be okay.

Nothing says "fuck you" to environmental sustainability of the planet quite like a repackaged disposable consumer product that uses more--not fewer--non-renewable resources.

To say nothing of the obvious irrelevance of a post that pretends to be newsworthy.
